What is eternal in its love
Where heaven is so high above?
What’s the power behind the force
That gives life to my inward course?
So I ask myself in silence…
Where the light of dusk fills this room,
Where the stillness is evidence
That heals and binds my inner gloom.
My mind’s inward contemplation
Provokes my vexing frustration,
As when I seek to discover
The hand of my Deliverer.
My brief life moves ever forward…
Full of self and self-centeredness,
Like time’s relentless steward—
Always in search of happiness!
Life can be meaningless, and vain:
I’ve read the books and felt the pain.
But they say that God’s love gives grace
To those who seek his blessed face!
Where nothing is what it seems…
Where right is but an illusion…
And mercy is the stuff of dreams;
Faith becomes a scorned delusion.
As a young man I took a wife
And led a life free of care and strife…
But time’s passing brings mortality,
And my thoughts are on eternity.
My greatest love is Leah, my wife!
And if God’s love is like marriage,
The giving of one’s self and life,
Then I know well this holy image!
If indeed He died on that Cross
And purchased me at great cost,
Then I give Him all that I am—
For God’s sacrificial Lamb!
So what is eternal in its love
Where heaven is so high above?
So what’s the power behind the force
That gives life to my inward course?
It’s God who’s eternal in His love
Where heaven is so high above!
God is the power behind the force
That gives life to my inward course!
