God so loved the world, that He
Gave His one and only Son, that
Whosoever believes in Him will
Not perish, but have everlasting life.
The seasons move ever forward
And I find myself looking inward,
As time continually passes
By my life of greener grasses.
It is really the thought of you
And of what is really true,
That your love truly blesses
And leaves no second-guesses…
How do I passionately express,
With mighty words and with success,
How so magnificent a love
Could descend from heaven above?
How do I richly proclaim and say
Within the span and breadth of a day:
The gift of your spilled blood and death
Gives me eternal life and breath?
Because of your Holy Passion
And the depth of your compassion,
You took away the penalty
And bound up Hell and Eternity!
For God so loved the world, that
He gave His one and only Son, that
Whosoever believes in Him, will
Not perish but have everlasting life.
Now as the autumn approaches
And the hand of time encroaches,
The red, brilliant sun is sinking…
And it sets me upon thinking.
That my life of sin and pleasure
And lust for carnal, earthly treasure,
Does not even beat or compare
To the calm peace that’s living there!
As I grow wistful and pensive
And increasingly reflective,
This habit of introspection
Gathers my mental rumination…
I know that this my solitude
Perfects my spiritual certitude:
That the wonderful love of God
Descends from his loving nod.
Of all the wicked pleasures and joys
And tempting little, carnal toys
That this evil world surely offers,
None is worth all of Hell’s coffers.
Now that I am a righteous man,
I wish to perform all that I can
For Him and His divine glory,
And make it my life’s true story.
Because of your great sacrifice,
You paid the penalty and price
On that blessed, crucifying Cross
At great, unimaginable cost!
For You so loved the world, that
You gave Your one and only Son
That whosoever believes in Him, will
Not perish but have everlasting life.
