I woke up this morning
With the lingering smell of smoke in my hair again From just another night spent in the old bar-room Where a smile hides the loneliness and the pain of being alone Another night gone, passed in good company The few songs we sang, were of hope, love and loss The songs of our youth, songs that brought to mind Those long ago good old days and lovers long gone I looked at the friends who sat down beside me And I wondered what life could have thrown at them For them to end up like this Lonely in the night and searching for company I woke up wondering what makes them different? Wondering what makes one better than the other What's made one a winner and the other a loser I wonder what makes one stronger than the other I wonder about all the pain that they’re suffering I woke up this morning With the lingering smell of smoke in my hair again From just another night spent in the old bar-room Where a smile hides the loneliness and the pain of being alone
