As The Petals Fall
Let fall the dark stain petals on the love that left all too soon.

Bring down the sky-painted curtain and darken the fiery sun.
Tear out the world’s endless stitches until all comes undone.

Silence the mournful cries that fill the crowded streets.
Replace them with funeral drums playing muffled beats.

The procession of black marches in rows, four by four.
A life once so full is lost to one forever more.

Gather ‘round the turned earth with heads bowed low,
And whisper one final prayer in tones of soft, even flow.

The lacquered box lowers slowly, achingly, into the ground.
Bid the last farewells in handfuls of dirt upon the pyre mound.

Through murky tears, feel as the heart turns to stone.
As the bitter coldness of death seeps straight into the bone.

Unhook the glowing stars and shroud the waning moon.
Let fall the dark stain petals on the love that left too soon.
