An Hourglass

I am an hourglass.

At daybreak, the sand comes in through my head,
The grains of sand interlock.
The grains of sand shift and interlock again.

At nightfall, the sand leaves through my toes,
The grains of sand disconnect.
I am lightened and will sleep.
