Grampa and Gramma moved to our town a couple of months ago. They used to live in the big city far away. Grampa said they moved to see me more. But I hardly ever see him. He’s too busy.
I asked them to come to my concert. I was singing in the choir, and I got to sing one of the lines all by myself. But Grampa was busy. I’m not sure why he’s busy. He said he’s retarded which means he doesn’t have to work anymore because he’s old. Grampa always talks on the phone. Every time I call, the phone is busy. When I ride my bike to their house he’s always working with papers and the computer. He writes in a book all the time. He won’t tell me what he’s doing and says I should go away. Grampa is friends with the police. They come to visit him. They ask him questions and write things down. Sometimes he goes to visit them. They sometimes pick him up and take him to their place. I don’t think Gramma likes his friends. She cries when they come. When they leave, she shouts at Grampa. Yesterday his friends picked him up and he stayed out all night. I found the book he writes in. The book has lots of names, and numbers. I can read some of the words. I don’t know why Grampa didn’t tell his police friends about the book. They asked him, and he said he didn’t know anything about it. Maybe he just forgot. He’s old, you know. When I see his friends, I’ll tell them I found the book. Grampa will be happy. That will make his police friends happy too. Maybe they will let him visit that big house they always talk about. (300 words)
