 About Me
More about who I am and what drives me.

This item requires reviews with ratings.
When I was young, I used to follow my mom around the house singing songs that I had made up just for her. The one thing that my mother does remember about the songs is that they were long. One could last all morning. That was way before I started writing things down on paper.

When I finally started school and learned how to write my ABC’s I started writing. Not all of it was good. None of my very early work was kept. In my early to late teens, several events in my life drove my writing to a different level. I wrote to deal with every day issues in life. I also started writing for entertainment when my English classes would assign creative writing.

Story telling has always been a part of me. When I was little, I could come up with some whoppers, not very believable though. My imagination never left me and I can still look at things quite the same way I always have. This is a very useful thing when it comes to writing a story.

Grammar, punctuation and spelling are demons that I still fight. I work hard and use a word processor to try to find the errors and even that is not always enough. One thing that I have started doing is reading the story out-loud to see if it sounds the way I want it to. This has helped me in revising things.

----------Who am I?

This is Me [#1581960]
picture of Me

I am a 40-something single mom. I have three children, a girl that is 21 years old, a son that is 19, and a son that is 15. The oldest two have finished high school. The youngest is in his second year of high school. The oldest son, struggles with dyslexia and dysgraphia. The youngest is ADHD, though his attitude is good and he is just a happy bouncy person for the most part. Each one of them has their own distinct personalities. They get along better than most brothers and sisters and our home is a peaceful refuge from the daily grind.

I am work full time as a Documents Programmer and enjoy the work. I work with layout and design of things such as Magazine Invoices, Magazine Renewals and Other Invoice styles and layouts that are sent though the mail, either attached to a package or sent separately.

In the summer time, I enjoy swimming at the lake as often as possible aside from everything else that I do. I swim so often that family teases me about growing gills and fins.

I was born in cold state of Ohio, where winters are long and summers are about two months long. I have lived in Ohio, Idaho, West Texas, Central Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana.

I lived in Ohio as a child, and we moved away from there when I was in my teens. We lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for four years while I was still a teenager. Then we moved to Texas.

I now live in the piney woods of East Texas and enjoy the long summers.
East Texas is definitely, where my heart is.

I have a heritage rich in diversity. I have Dutch, Irish, German and Indian in my family background. With all of these cultures in my family tree, I try to draw upon the Mythos of all of the cultures when creating characters and writing. I have found that most myths are common among all people only the names of the main characters are different.

When I write, I try to research related histories and items. Such as the story “The Mirror”, I researched mirrors, and the village of Roan Oak. I believe that even a fictional story should come as close as possible to reality. The closer you can come to reality when writing fiction, the better. When this cannot be, then the characters and setting has to be alive and interesting.

Poems are my favorite type of writing. Where else can you use vague descriptions, personifications, use punctuation improperly, and belligerently misuse grammar? I love to write these and they are as easy as breathing. Though they do not make every one happy. They are my first love when it comes to writing.

My focus is on stories at this point. I want my writing to outlast me. I want the stories to go forward, to have a life of their own. That is my main goal so I do not focus on the poetry as much anymore. Most of what I write is fiction, because truth is only truth to the eye of the beholder. When I write a story to add to “Stories of the Heart”, it is usually something that has been on my mind a lot or something that is keeping me from being able to focus on other things.

My goal is, to have several works published. Not many Authors would say anything differently in this area. However, it is not my main intent. I write simple because I am. Writing is my way of letting myself fly.

I can tell you, if you read an item that is marked unfinished or draft that It Is a draft and has not been finished. Most of my works are works in progress. Even finished works may change as I find an error and make corrections.

I love reading reviews, no matter how low a rating is. I like to hear what people think of an item that they read. I know that you cannot please everyone all the time. I do however like to know why an item is rated low, even if it is a personal reason of “this is not what I believe to be.” If you are not on a member on Writing.com you may still comment on the pieces by simply sending me an email at rjsimonson@writing.com please send the title of what you read in the email title - then let me have it.

Writing.Com is a place I believe in, I love it here and enjoy reading and writing and reviewing as I have time. This has helped me grow as a writer and reader.

If you don't like anything I have please be sure and review someone else. Reading other peoples work is inspirational for both you and them. Let them know you read it, even if your spelling or grammar skills are not what you think they should be. Everybody LOVES to here from readers!

----------------Favorite Authors

I have lots of favorites here on WDC, however this list is the Other Authors that I love! These are in no particular order.

- James Mallory http://www.merlinscribe.com

- Mercedes Lackey http://www.mercedeslackey.com

-The self proclaimed Orge, Piers Anthony http://www.hipiers.com
This Author, is the one that restarted my love of a good story.

-Kelly McCullough http://www.kellymccullough.com - His mix of modern technology and myth are masterpieces!

-Clair B Dunkle http://www.claredunkle.com

J.K. Rowling http://www.jkrowling.com

Robert Jordan, was a huge inspiration, and I loved his 'Wheel of Time' series.

And I am a huge fan of Stephanie Meyer, before you roll your eyes, you should really read her work.
Yes, I know it is a YA series for the 'most popular' of her books. However for those who read her books, you know that her characters litterally come to life when she writes. Both in the 'Twilight series' and in her book 'The Host'. You can check out her site at http://www.stepheniemeyer.com

These are only a few of the Authors that have inspired me.

--------------------------------------------------------
My inspiration comes from several places, Sometimes a word, or phrase, a cloud, a picture, and even at times from just watching people themselves. My imagination is, well, for lack of a better term, "out there". Music and my own personal religious beliefs also are part of my inspiration. I have been told that I am, different, I always took that to be a nice way people had to tell me I was strange.*Rolleyes*
