MOUSE AND CAT
I met you and developed Affection so much deep That I craved your company Whether awake, asleep. I liked you and was jealous And could not tolerate That you should look at others, Something that I did hate. I deemed this unfaithfulness And was full of revenge. Time passed, I grew impatient That vows we should exchange. That was not destined to be One day you parted so As not to come back again; Our friendship could not grow. I wish I had not throttled Your freedom so much that You started thinking you were A mouse and I a cat. • Written as a quatrain using abcb rhyme and 7-6-7-6 syllabic scheme. M C Gupta 6 March 2009
