                                          Ghazal 230


Persian:  Khuda ra kam nasheen baa khirqa pooshaan
              Rukh az rindaan e baisaamaan mapooshaan
Urdu:      Khuda ra kam nasheen baa khirqa poashaan
              Na rakh mehroom e jalwa baadanoushaan

English:=== For God's sake don't go for the preacher or sheik
                  For they are by nature so totally fake
                                                -

Persian:  Dar een khirqa basay aaloodgi hast
              Khusha waqt e qaba e maifarooshaan
Urdu:      Bohat aalooda khirqay zaahidoun kay
              Hay paakeeza qaba e maifaoashaan

English:=== Under their gowns they hide their dirt
                  With the maid of the bar you should go and flirt
                                                    -

Persian:  Dar een soofiwashaan darday nadeedam
              Keh safi baad aish e durdnooshaan
Urdu:      Bohat baidard haen dil soofioun kay 
              Safa laikin hay tabb e durdnaoshaan

English:=== In the preachers and sheiks I see no pity
                  But the keeper of the bar is kind and witty
                                                        -

Persian:  Bia o zarq e een saaloosian been
              Suraahi khoondil o barbat kharooshaan
Urdu:      Faraib o makr say saloosioun kay
              Dil e sheesha hay khoon, barbat kharoashaan

English:=== But when it sees the preacher or sheik
                  The harp in the bar does cry with ache
                                                      -

Persian:  Chun mastam kardaie mastoor mansheen
              Chun noosham daadaie zahram manooshaan
Urdu:      Na ho mastoor kerkay mast saaqi
              Tera jalwa hay nosh e baadanaushaan

English:=== My gal makes me drunk and then goes away
                  Not the slightest remorse she does display
                                                      -

Persian:  To naazuktabaie, taaqat niyaari
              Garaaniha e mushtay dilqpooshaan
Urdu:      Garaan nazukmizaajoun per bohat haen
              Garaaniha e behs e dilqpoashaan

English:=== She is as biased as anyone can be
                  And has no patience for a mystic like me
                                                      -

Persian:  Lab e maigoon o chashm e mast baksha
              Keh az shooqat mai e laal ast jooshaan
Urdu:      Lab e maigoon o chashm e mast say hay
              Sharaab e naab e laalafaam joashaan

English:=== Her ruby lips when the wine sees
                  It starts to bubble and loses its ease
                                                      -

Persian:  To dar khaabi, kuja daani keh aashiq
              Basar dar kooay meegardad kharooshaan
Urdu:      To soata chayn say hay aur aashiq
              Phiray koochay maen hay taeray kharoashaan

English:=== In the bed she soundly sleeps all night
                  When her lovers are awake and very uptight
                                                          -

Persian:  Zay dilgarmi e HAFIZ purhazar baash
              Keh daarad seena e chu deeg jooshaan
Urdu:      Yeh kaisie hay dil e HAFIZ ki garmi
              Rakhay seena jo misl e daig joashaan

English:=== But about me, HAFIZ, she ought to worry
                  For a mystic's love is so full of fury
