One Quiet Night
Steps...crept past the hidden figure.

Steps, so quiet they barely registered as audible, crept passed the hidden figure. Long grass sprang back into place, no stalk broken. Nothing remained to indicate anyone had been there, except Jonil; who kept still, praying that her rapidly beating heart would ease.

Fear filled every pore. Panic, threatening all reason, was maintained by sheer willpower. It could not be real.

“Stand little one.” A kind, gentle voice said.

She rose, obediently.

“Come.” He whispered, arms opened invitingly, offering warmth, even hope.

Soft, smooth lips tenderly caressed exposed neck. Pain followed, sharp fangs sank deep, blood gushed and souls entwined.
