BARTERING WISDOM: a sonnet
Some march ahead where angels fear to tread. Some tilt at wind mills Don Quixotic style. Some in sincerity rumours do spread. Some needlessly, to others, are hostile. Some jot a few words randomly and claim That they’ve mastered the art of poetry, But, needlessly, other poets they blame Of observing syllabic symmetry. The heights can’t be measured by those who’re low, As depths can’t be measured by those at shore. Only God’s grace can such wisdom bestow As to believe others too may be pure. Lord, grant me this, I pray at Your altar: For knowledge, I may not wisdom barter. M C Gupta 15 March 2009
