HELLO DADDY!

“So, how’d you feel about being a daddy?”

“A what?’

“A dad. You know, a father.”

“Are you trying to tell me something?”

“Yep. Ten weeks.”

“You’ve known for ten weeks?”

“No. I’m ten weeks pregnant. I only found out last week.”

“You’ve known since last week? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“You were on tour. I didn’t want to drop this on you while you were dealing with that.”

“Oh my god! We’re having a baby.”

“Looks that way…”

“But I don’t want to have a baby. I’m in no position to look after a kid. I mean, I can barely look after myself!”

“I’m not exactly ready either, but I guess we just have to get used to it. In six and a half months we’re going to be parents. Like it or not.”

“You’re only ten weeks, right? You could still….”

“If I wanted to. But I don’t. I’m thirty-one, dude. Women only get a small window of opportunity. Maybe it’s not ideal timing, but now that it’s happened, I’m not unhappy about it.”

“What if I’m unhappy?”

“Look, I’ve had a week to think about it, I was pretty freaked out about it to begin with too!”

“You’re on the pill. How did it even happen?”

“The usual way. The pill’s not infallible you know. And I’m not that great at remembering to take it sometimes.”

“You… You didn’t do it on purpose did you?”

“What?”

“You know. Stop taking the birth control on purpose?”

“No! Of course not! But we have talked about it haven’t we? What about that whole conversation we had when I got back from Berlin.”

“I know.”

“You said you would rather stick around and have kids with me than live without me. That was your decision.”

“I know. I just didn’t think you’d get pregnant so goddamn fast! You’ve only been back for…”

“Ten weeks.”

“You mean…”

“Yep. That night. Remember? We drank that bottle of Jaeger while we were having that conversation.”

“And then…’

“That’s when it happened.”

“Jesus!”
