1. No this not the first time I have heard redundancy. It is the first time I was forced to recognize how often it is used, both in writing and speech.
2. As stated above, yes!!
3. Yes, leaving out the flowery, additional stuff that is not really needed brings you back to more concrete words. It makes for a quicker read too! *Blush*
