ONLY THE BROKEN-HEARTED

It is the loss that takes the breath out of you,
drops you to your knees and leaves you empty
of any emotion - it hurts too much to cry.
You have become one of the broken-hearted,
and only the broken-hearted knows the pain.

Your world darkens, there are no songs to be sung
that would not bring back the memories of him.
A nameless dread fills your soul, you weep in vain;
for loss, no matter what it is, cuts like a knife
and leaves you bleeding inside, forever more.

It is too soon to think of survival, you are alone
in your grief, for no one can imagine how you feel
or tell you how you can ever go on living; a lie
is born when you try to lift your head and smile.
You are with the pain, it fills every waking moment.

Time alone will heal you, regardless of how deep
tha pain is at the moment, there will be a day
when you come to acceptance of the loss
and somehow, you will find a way to go on.
I know - as only the broken-hearted can know.

The loss is something you never forget, but
the pain lessens over time, they live in memory
and in your heart as long as you live.
There comes a brighter day. You are strong,
you will survive.
