Earth Year 3000

Hundreds of years ago the people of earth set out to colonize the stars.
Human kind left earth taking with them all they could after war, disease and global warming had ravaged the earth making it uninhabitable. Some traveled in stasis in large cryogenic ships while others who could not afford that luxury traveled in generation ships in search of new planets to call home.

Commanding Officers Log. Earth Date 24th April 3000

I have now been in charge of the SS Explorer for 100 days and there is still no sign of a suitable planet to survey. The ship has been scanning for a new home for 700 years without success.
We have just finished a basic scan of a solar system with no luck. The crew is getting restless again and the stasis pods on our fleets cryogenic ships may not be able to keep their occupants alive much longer as spare parts for our power generators are becoming scarce and we haven't got enough raw material to make new. Our food supplies are also being hit by the power problem and after liaising with the other ship commanders we have agreed to setup a fleet wide rationing system. I am hoping that the next system we visit will be the one.

Commanding Officers Log. Earth Date 30th May 3000

Situation is not improving. We had hoped to be arriving at our next destination in a week, but due to a major problem with the ships power generator we are running on back up only. We are only able to power essential systems and maneuvering thrusters until we can get the generator working properly again.

Senior Engineers Log. Earth Date 6th June 3000

My team has been working flat out for a week now, trying to fix the Explorers generator with little success. We are patching it up the best we can with what parts we have left to our disposal but it is hard going and I cannot see the generator working properly for a few more weeks.

Commanding Officers Log. Earth Date 6th June 3000

We are a week behind schedule and the engineering crew are no closer to fixing the generator than they were when it first stopped working.

Earth Date 27th August 3000

'BEEP, BEEP, BEEP'

The bridge bustled with activity. The SS Explorer had finally made it to the next solar system in their search for a new home and the crew had set to work scanning the planets as they made their way from one to the next.

'BE-BEEP, BE-BEEP'

The bridge crew looked over to the sensor station with antisipation.

Lieutenant Davis studied the screen for a minute or so before looking up. 'We've done it! We've found a habitable planet.' He said excitedly.
