“I made a new friend today.” Victor announced with pride.

“That’s wonderful.” Replied Elizabeth. “Where did you meet him? It is a ‘he’, isn’t it?”

“Of course it is, dear. I guess you could say I met him in the lab.”

“Tell me what he’s like.”

“He’s a strange mixture, actually. He has the legs and feet of a lumberjack, the hands of a pianist, and the brain of a genius, but I think a devious genius. He is tall and strong, but not very handsome. He has scars from several operations. But I think you would like him.”

Elizabeth became excited. “When can I meet him? Where is he now?”

“He was sleeping in the lab when I left him. I could rouse him later, if you would like.” Victor, now having second thoughts, trembled at the thought of introducing his new friend to Elizabeth.

“I would love to meet him. You don’t have any friends, I think it’s good for you to have a friend.” Elizabeth glowed at the thought of Victor making a new friend.

“I’m sure you know, but this is this first one I have made. I hope it works out.” Victor lacked self confidence.

“It will, darling. I have faith in you. This time it will work out.” Elizabeth forced praise on her introverted husband.

Victor and Elizabeth jumped up at the same time when they heard people shouting at their front door. Victor threw the door open to see several men from town carrying burning torches. They shouted obscenities at Victor when he stepped out onto the porch.

“What do you men want?” Victor shouted with defiance over the noise.

“Doctor Frankenstein, you must do something about your new friend. He is terrorizing the town.”
