Robbie picked up the phone. “Hello.”
“Hi hon’, how are you?” “Hi baby, I thought you were at the barbeque?” “I am, I just popped down to the shops... oh my gosh.” “What is it babe?” “There’s a weird guy circling the block in his car, hon.” “What? What guy?” “I...I don’t know...He’s coming over..” A stranger’s voice, brutish and gruff. Angela’s scream. “Angie!” The receiver clinked against the booth. Silence. Dropping the phone, Rob leapt into his Chevy and raced down the street, heart thumping. He whizzed past an old pickup, headed the other way. “Robbie!” Angela shrieked out of the window. “Shit!” Hitting the brakes, the Chevy skidded one-eighty and Robbie forced it into reverse. Metal crunched against metal. Sparks flew. Giving chase, Robbie closed on the pickup before his mistake was realised. The transmission seized. The brake lights faded into dust. Angela was never seen again. 150 words
