Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Who watches the watchmen?

The eternal question that all of us have asked ourselves over and over is this: Who watches the watchmen? Who guards the guards? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? That's what we've all thought about for hours since joining the Protector Corps. There hasn't been a day when one of us hasn't doubted our cause, but we all come up with the same answer. We watch over ourselves.

It's been three years since I joined the Corps, which makes me a veteran, but no one respects me. No one respects me because I've been in the PC since 2015, and I'm still a private. Most of the people who I stood next to at Induction are officers by now, and I've stood next to them at three Promotions, and listened as my name failed to be called. Not once have I heard my name at a ceremony, not once have I earned any kind of award, not even an Merit Rank 1. The kid I roomed with in my first year already has three Rank 4s and a Rank 5, and I don't have anything. Yet.

My uniform consists of a helmet and a jacket, which I don't even have to wear. My "rank" is demonstrated by the fact that I live in a certain building, and I've only been on one mission in my three years. We're a small, unofficial force, but we're the most powerful in the modern U.S.
