I wake up in the night to drink coffee with a spoon
Rocking in my chair and howling at the moon Watching the stars dance, On blue waters of crystal fountains Beneath the shadows of the purple sunflowers Here I sit awake. Why? When the rest of the world is sleeping, Dawn breaks on yet another perfect day And in the rosy glow of morning hours I dine on a breakfast of walnuts and Californian raisins And try to dream of sunnier times My empty head’s so full of words Words still left to write, So many words I wish I’d said. Words still left unspoken I can hear them screaming? All the words that won’t come out Are keeping me awake But what was once written, has been rubbed out And life will never be the same It’s time to start to fill the future, rewrite the pages of my life And somehow learn to say what’s really on my mind I know from deep inside, I can only be myself You’ve had to read between the lines To know just exactly what I meant But until then, I’ll just go on trying and Maybe time will help to teach me How to speak the perfect words
