THE ROAD TO ZION!

Walking on this road to Zion, this stone strewn road to Zion.
Stumbling, faltering, till weary near beyond recovery,
We begin to question, and to wonder – why?
Why should we even try to stay upon so hard a path in this life?
Then comes CHRIST our guide with aid, offered from HIS loving,
Nailed scared hands and HE helps us to go onward, toward that
Longed for prize, waiting at the end of this road to Zion.

Troubles on this road to Zion, this stormy road to Zion.
Dangers always threatening, other terrors always waiting
‘round each bend, till even the stoutest of us consider giving in,
At least for a little while, in hopes that life's storms may soon
Pass by, if we but step to the road's side.
But always, always at that time comes the voice of
CHRIST our guide to calm the soul and let us know,
We do not walk alone.
And with that, we can keep going on, upon this road to Zion.

Detours along this road to Zion.
Ways to leave and seek some less demanding way.
Until even the most devout struggle with the temptation to stray, and
Taste promises of forbidden pleasures.
Or caste off all we hope to gain, in hopes to gain some present
Treasure, if we but yield and heed damnation's ancient lies.
Till all hope of paradise seems so far down the road,
We scarce can summon up the strength to continue on
And so, we cast ourselves down upon the unforgiving ground,
Asking, over and again – what now, dear GOD, what now?
But comes CHRIST our guide, to raise us up and send us on
With no further thoughts of straying from this road to Zion.

O, the wounds and harms we suffer on this road to Zion.
Wars in heaven rage amid angelic hosts to help to save, or doom us all.
While we, in deep despair, endure as best we can,
The darts and arrows that fall like rain from there.
And while the deadliest may miss, others find a mark,
Till fear of life, or fear of death, becomes too much to bear, and even
The bravest of us wish to flee for some imagined safety.
Not knowing where, just any place, but there upon that stone strewn, stormy,
Troubled way, paved with so much misery.

Yet, amid the danger and the fear, comes as always CHRIST our
Guide, to comfort us and keep us there, saying
“place your hand into MY side and renew your faith in ME, my child.”
“For even the deepest wounds will heal in time,
If you love and trust in ME.
And follow on in the steps I have already walked, so long ago
Upon this very road.
For only it can lead you home - to Zion."
