In the real world at Alice’s school it was break time and all the girls were playing in the school playground. There were a many different games being played. This included tig, stuck in the mud, What’s the Time Mr. Wolf.
But Alice herself was playing with a few other girls. She didn’t really notice that she was little more then head and shoulders taller then they were. They seemed to be playing with their dolls. Two of the girls had their own dolls and Alice had to borrow one of theirs. They were playing within a small playhouse within the school yard. The house was so popular with the girls that they had to take it in turns to play in there.
“I think Mrs Taylor would like a cup of tea,” said one of the girls. “Would you like one Mrs Ryder?”
“I certainly do,” replied Alice.
“But first you have get the biscuits.”
“Alright.” Alice then went to stand up but her head hit the ceiling of the small house. The wood was quite weak and her head went straight through it. This caused great annoyance with the other girls.
“Alice you’ve ruined the house,” said one of the Girls.
“Yeah you’re too tall,” replied another.
“I’m sorry,” said Alice.
“Sorry isn’t going to fix the roof.”
Both girls then turned away from her and she knew what this meant. She quickly left the house but she was almost crying. She had never been rejected like this before and she was feeling uneasy about her height.
Alice looked around the entire playground and she saw that she was taller then every single girl. This upset her even more and she felt like running away and crying. But next door was the boy’s school and she could see that it was also break time for them. She could see a boy who she had a crush on. His name was Reginald and her mind he was the most handsome boy she had ever seen. But she had never had the courage to actually talk to him.
But over the next few days Alice began to wonder how tall she would really be when she grew up. She didn’t know if this was only a recent growth spurt and that she wouldn’t grow that much more. Or would she grow so tall that she would have to join a freak show at a circus.
Since she didn’t know anyone in the real world who would help her with this problem. But she knew someone in Wonderland who could help her. Dr. Heinz seemed to be her best hope. She knew that not all of his inventions always worked. But she hoped that one of them would that would help her.
Alice practically counted down the days until she could go to Wonderland. She had to go to church before she could go to Wonderland. But she was able to endure it and when it finished she raced towards the rabbit hole and she more or less dived into it. She then quickly made her way to the Doorknob and once again he seemed very happy to see her. But she was in a hurry.
“Welcome back Alice,” he said.
“Is Doctor Heinz where he should be today?” replied Alice.
“I believe he is.”
“Good I really need to speak with him.” She then took a sip of the shrinking juice and she shrank until she was small enough to get into Wonderland. “Goodbye I’ll see you a little later.”
“Goodbye Alice.”
Alice then went through the door and found herself in the field once again. She saw Dr Heinz’s house not too far away from her and she quickly walked towards it. It looked a little better then the last time she was there. The outside looked like it had been given a new coat of paint and the windows seemed to be new.
But for now Alice wasn’t really bothered about the improvements. She desperately needed to see Dr. Heinz. She quickly knocked on the door and she waited for a moment to answer. But at first no one seemed to answer.
“Heinz?” she asked.
Just then the door opened and she saw that it was Heinz. She was very happy to see him and she gave him a hug. Heinz himself was confused with what was happening. This was the last thing he expected.
“Alice?” he asked.
“Yeah it’s me,” replied Alice. She then broke the hug. “I really need you help.” A tear filled her eye.
“Sure what do you need?”
“Have you invented anything that can tell me how tall I’ll be when I’m grown up?” She tried to smile a little.
“Isn’t it best to keep it a surprise?”
“No I need to know now.”
“Well I do have something.”
“Great.”
“Come in and I’ll show you.”
Heinz then went further inside the house and Alice quickly followed. She could still see a lot of his inventions lying across the room. But then eventually came to one that looked like a chair with some ropes on it.
“Here it is,” said Heinz.
“What that?” replied Alice.
“Believe me it works. Just sit down and I’ll do the rest.”
“Alright I guess.”
Alice then sat on the chair and Heinz put a rope and some rubber on her left arm. He then sat on another chair that had a printer. He pressed a green button on it and he began to hum a little as he waited for everything to start up.
After a couple of minutes some paper began to come of his invention. It had a couple of numbers on it and he began to write down on it.
“Now let’s see,” said Heinz. “This is how tall you’ll be if you stopped in Wonderland. But this is how tall you’ll be in the real world.” But then he began to hear something whistle. “Kettle’s boiled.”
He then got up and walked away. Alice was too impatient to wait for him to come back so she got up and looked at the piece of paper. She saw the biggest numbers on the paper. The number was 184.
“Oh no,” she said. “When I grow up I’m going to be 18’4. How am I going to go through life that tall?”
She then began to run out of the house in tears. No more then a second after she left Heinz went back to his invention. He was very surprised to see that Alice wasn’t there anymore.
“Where did she go?” asked Heinz. He then sighed a little. “Oh well more tea for me.” He then took a sip of his tea. “Cold tea is definitely not my best invention.”
Meanwhile outside Alice continued to run in tears. But eventually she came to a fairly large stump. She sat down on it and she continued to cry. But at the same time she was able to think
“What am I going to do?” asked Alice. “Am I going to be in some kind of freak show? Or am I actually going to use my size to help people.” Just then an idea popped into her head. “Maybe if 18’4 in Wonderland I can get use to it so when I do eventually grow that tall I’ll know what to do.”
She then too the growing mushroom from her pocket and she looked at it for a moment. She took another minute to think about it. But then she took a bite out of it. She stood up as she grew but she grew a little larger then she wanted so she took a nibble from the shrinking mushroom to bring her size down.
But each time she tried she was either a little too big or a little too small. But eventually she reached the size that she desired. She looked around a little and she could see that most things seemed smaller. Although most of the trees still towered above her they didn’t seem to be as tall as they once were.
“Guess this is what the world will look to me when I’m all grown up,” said Alice. She then sighed a little. “Well I better see what I can do at this size.
She then began to walk away. She walked through the forest. But along the way she tripped over another stump. She came crashing down to earth and she felt embarrassed more then anything.
“Oh dear,” said Alice. “At this size I really need to watch where I’m walking. I might step on a poor creature.”
“Well that depends,” replied a voice. Alice then saw the Cheshire Cat appear on a tree branch below her. Normally this would have been suitable for the normal size Alice. But since she was bigger it was a little awkward. “One moment please.” He then disappeared and reappeared on a higher branch at roughly Alice’s eye level. “You see that’s much better.”
“What is it?” replied Alice.
“I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation. So you’ve decided to make yourself a giant and why may I ask?”
“Doctor Heinz’s invention told me that this was how tall I’d be when I grew up. So I’ve decided to be big here so I could get use to it. Then when I do get to this height when I’m older it won’t be that much of a surprise.”
“But that spoils the fun. You’ll ruin the surprise.”
“It’s not exactly a surprise I want.”
“But a surprise nonetheless. What would you do if I told you that the Queen of Hearts has put the biggest bounty on your head? Everyone who wants money is after you. It’ll not be safe for you anywhere.”
“I’d be very scared.” There was some tension in her voice.
“April fools.”
Alice wasn’t very impressed by this. If anything it had annoyed her even more. She glared at the Cheshire Cat.
“Two things,” said Alice. “Number one that wasn’t funny. And second it’s only the middle of March.”
“Just practicing,” replied Cheshire Cat.
“Can you help me with anything?”
“Well I can tell you how to get two cupcakes for the price of one. I suspect you’d find that useful.”
“Although not exactly what I need. But it could be useful for the future. Go on tell me how.”
“Collect the coupons.”
He then disappeared again leaving Alice there all by herself. She didn’t think much about what the Cheshire Cat had told her. But she just kept walking and she continued to look around. But for now there didn’t seem to be much that she could do. She just looked around to see if there was anything interesting happened.
At her size Alice could see for a long distance. In an open field she could see that Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum were wearing homemade armour. They seemed to be fighting each. She didn’t want to see either of them get hurt so she quickly ran over to them both. She didn’t realise that at her size that she would terrify them as soon as she got there.
“It’s a giant,” said Tweedle Dee.
“It’s Alice,” replied Tweedle Dum.
“It’s a giant Alice,” they both said together.
“Don’t worry I’m not here to hurt you,” replied Alice. “I want to know why you two are fighting.”
“Tweedle Dee broke my brand new rattle,” said Tweedle Dum. He then lifted up a broken Rattle. “Just take a look at it.”
Alice gently grabbed the rattle from his hand. She took a closer look at it and she thought that it looked old and beat up.
“It looks pretty old,” said Alice.
“No its not,” replied Tweedle Dum. “I bought it brand new yesterday from the second hand shop.”
“But second hand means…”
“As said by the Tweedle law we must battle,” interrupted Tweedle Dum. “We have both agreed on this.”
“So let us get on with it,” replied Tweedle Dee.
“But there’s no point in fighting over a silly rattle,” said Alice. “You could be doing so much more with your time.”
“But we must fight.”
“No fighting.”
“Not even a little one?”
“No fighting whatsoever.”
“How about a thumb war?”
“Well I guess a thumb war isn’t exactly fighting.” She then thought about it a little more. “Oh go on them.”
“A thumb war it is!”
The Tweedles then locked their hands and prepared themselves for a thumb war. Alice agreed that she would be the referee of this little contest. She dared not think what would happen if she just left.
“One two three four I declare a thumb war,” said Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. “Five six seven eight try to keep your thumb straight.”
Then the thumb war began. Both the Tweedles tried to pin the others thumb. But this was very difficult. They were arguing amongst themselves while this happened and they seemed to be deep in concentration.
But after several minutes Tweedle Dum seemed to be winning and he laughed a little at his brother.
“Give up,” said Tweedle Dum.
“Never,” replied Tweedle Dee.
But then they all heard a great cry. It sounded like a crow. They all looked towards where the sound came from and they saw a crow that dwarfed Alice. They all seemed to be very scared.
“It’s the monstrous crow!” shouted Tweedle Dee.
“Let’s get out of here!” replied Tweedle Dum.
Both the Tweedles then ran for cover. But it was too late for Alice. The Monstrous Crow produced hurricane force winds that blew her away. She went flying through the air and she was screaming the entire time.
Eventually Alice landed in a lake and the splash sent a tidal wave to the river banks. But thankfully no one was there so no one was injured. But Alice herself stood up and she was very wet.
“If I had been smaller like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum I would have been able to get away,” said Alice. “But since I was too big to hide I got blew away.” She then sighed. “Guess this is another disadvantage of being big.”
She slowly walked towards the banks of the lake. When she got out she tried to dry herself off. But it seemed to be no use. She still felt miserable. But for now she just kept on walking. She hoped that the sun would dry her off.
“I wonder who I’ll run into next,” said Alice. “Maybe someone who I’ve met before. Or maybe someone completely new.”
But eventually Alice came to what seemed to be a mountain range. She hadn’t seen this at any time before. But she wanted to get through them nonetheless. She could see a tight path that went through the mountain range. For any normal person in Wonderland they’d be able to walk through it quite quickly and easily. But since Alice was over eighteen feet tall it would be a very tight squeeze for her.
But instead of thinking it through Alice just began to walk through it. But it didn’t take her too long to get in between two mountains that were too tight for her. She got stuck quite quickly. In this desperate time she tried to grab the shrinking mushroom and take a bite. But she couldn’t reach it. She began to cry a little.
“No I’m too big,” she said. “Now I’m stuck.”
“Or maybe you’re too small,” replied a Voice.
“Who’s there?”
“Me.”
“Who’s me?”
“Why ask such a silly question?”
“Because I have absolutely no idea who you are and I’m stuck.”
“Touchy.” He then cleared his throat. “Ok wait for it.” Alice then felt something land on her shoulder. She looked and saw a little Robin Bird. “Is this any better for you my dear? Or do you prefer to be on your nose?”
“No there is perfectly fine.”
“Ok first off call me Robin. And second I say you’re at an in-between size.” He then chuckled a little.
“What do you mean an in-between size? Well that’s when you’re too small to do one thing but too big to do another that reaches the same goal.”
“Come again?”
“Ok I’ll use you as an example. You want to get to the other side of this huge mountain range right?”
“Right.”
“You’re too big to go on the path right?”
“Right.”
“And you’re too small to step over the mountains right?”
“Right.”
“So you’re an in-between size.”
“But I don’t want to be an in between size. I just want to be out of here.”
“Have you considered making yourself either bigger or smaller?”
“Yes but I can’t reach the mushrooms.”
“Well maybe you can sort this out without having to change size. Have you tried to go back the way you came?”
“I can’t I’m stuck.”
“Well maybe I can help you get out.”
“No offence but you’re a little too small to help me.”
“I beg to differ. All I want you to do is push back the way you came.”
“Alright.”
Robin then flew off her shoulder and he began to push Alice. For Alice it was felt like she was being pushed by a train and she quickly got free. She was amazed with what had just happened.
“What just happened?” asked Alice.
“Mind over body my very large friend,” replied Robin. “I believed that I could push you out so I did.”
“Kind of like those Buddhist priests say?”
“You could say so. The reason you got stuck was because you didn’t believe you could get through.”
“And because I was too big.”
“But if you believe you can get through you can do it.”
“But I can’t do it.”
“Then you have already failed. There is truly nothing that you can not do if you put your mind to it. Please try and get through again. If you believe you can do it then you will succeed.”
“Ok I’ll try.”
“You either succeed or you fail. There is no try.”
“Right.”
Alice then gave out a sigh. She looked at the space between the two mountains that she had gotten stuck. She still didn’t think that she would get through it. She did try however but again she was too big. She stopped herself before she got stuck like she had done last time.
“See I can’t do it,” said Alice.
“All you need to do is have faith,” replied Robin.
“But it’s physically impossible.”
“Maybe to you. But you must believe. If you do that then nothing is impossible my dear.”
“Ok I’ll give it another go.”
“But this time believe and you will succeed.”
Alice once again walked up to the space between the mountains. But this time she began to believe that she could do it. If a tiny robin was able to push someone her size then she thought anything was possible.
But when she went to go in-between the she found that she was squeezing through it quite easily. In no time at all she was able to get through it. She looked at it and she seemed to be amazed.
“Wow I actually got through,” said Alice.
“I told you that you would,” replied Robin. “That time you believed you could do it and you succeed. That is very good.”
“Thanks I guess. You were right all along.”
“See if you believe nothing is impossible. But now I must depart.” Robin then began to fly away. “Remember what I told you.”
“Don’t worry I won’t.”
Alice then continued to walk down the path between the mountains. She came to a few more tight squeezes but she was able to get through them without any problems. But eventually she reached the other side.
Instead of seeing either a field or forest she seemed to be in a cold and barren wasteland. There was snow everywhere and there was a freezing wind. She began to shiver a little and she tried to rub her arms.
“It’s cold,” she said. “It wasn’t this cold when I came through the mountains. It’s like I’m at the South Pole.” She began to look around but there seemed to be no shelter or living things anywhere. “I certainly must leave before I freeze.”
But when Alice turned around she saw that the once mighty mountains had disappeared. She couldn’t see them anywhere. All she could see was an endless sea of snow and ice. This depressed her greatly.
“The mountains are gone,” she said. “But that means I’m stuck here. I’ll freeze before I can find anywhere warm.”
But despite everything Alice began to run straight forwards. She hoped that she would find someone who could help her. Also running would keep her warm in this freezing environment. But after running several miles it still seemed like there was nothing. She hadn’t seen anything indicating life. But she was so exhausted that she fell onto the ground.
“It’s hopeless,” she said. “There’s nothing here but snow. No one’s ever going to know what happened to me.”
But as she felt the snow she expected it to be freezing cold. But instead if felt quite warm. She quickly got back up and looked at it. She put her hand in the snow and once again it felt warm.
“How very odd,” she said. “Warm snow? What next freezing cold sand?” She then giggled a little to herself.
Just then Alice noticed that the sun was bright in the sky. It began to become very warm and she noticed that all the snow around her began to melt. Underneath the blankets of snow was grass and other plants.
“Within seconds the snow was completely gone and Alice was in another endless field. She felt very warm now. But she was still little confused with what was happening. Even in Wonderland she never expected the weather to change so rapidly. Moments ago it had felt like she was in the middle of Winter. But now she was almost certain that it was Spring once more.
She could also see small animals crawling out of holes. They seemed to be just waking up and Alice thought that they were cute. She walked over to them to see if they could help her in anyway.
But her body cast a huge shadow over them and they began to look up at her. She tried to smile at them. But they were very panicky.
“A giant!” shouted one of the creatures.
“Leg it!” shouted another.
“No wait,” replied Alice.
But it was too late. All of the little had already dived into the holes and they were out of sight. Alice began to feel pretty low.
“Great my size scared them off,” said Alice. “If this is going to keep happening when I grow up then I won’t have much of a life.” She then squatted down and knocked her fist on the ground. “I’m not going to hurt you. I just want to talk.”
She waited a few seconds. She noticed one of the small creatures crawl out of the hole. She looked at him and she could see that he was scared of her. But once again she smiled. She hoped that this would calm him down.
“W-what do you want?” asked the small creature.
“I just want to know what just happened,” replied Alice.
“You came and scared us all away.”
“No I mean before that. It was snow as far as the eye could see. But now it’s like I’m in spring.”
“That’s because it is spring.”
“But it was winter a few minutes ago.”
“Well that’s what’s special about this valley. An entire year can go in a day. In a few hours it’ll be summer. Then a few hours after that it’ll be autumn and then after that it’ll be winter once again.”
“That’s very strange.”
“You get use to it.”
“There’s something else I need to ask you.”
“What’s that?”
“Are there any towns anywhere near here?”
“Well there’s a town in almost every direction. You just have to keep walking until you get to one.”
“Which is the nearest one to here?”
“Now that’s more like it. There’s one a couple of miles west and another a few miles to the east.”
“Great but which one is the most normal?”
“My dear nothing is normal in Wonderland. That’s why there are so many normal things in the real world compared to here. Think about it, only in Wonderland could you have people with removable heads, giant girls, talking animals. You name it Wonderland’s probably got it somewhere.”
“A dragon?”
“You mean the Jabberwocky?”
Just then they heard screams come from the holes. This had caught Alice by surprise and it made her jump. But she was able to calm herself down a little before talking once again.
“Jabberwocky?” she asked.
“Yeah it’s a big bad dragon thingy with huge wings and big pointy teeth. He could gobble you up in a second.”
“So here’s scary?”
“Oh yes very scary. Just the mere mention of his name causes something somewhere to break.”
“Just by saying Jabberwocky?”
Meanwhile on the other side of Wonderland the Mad Hatter and March Hare were drinking tea. But then suddenly the chair that the Mad Hatter was sitting on broke and he fell to the ground. His head rolled off as well.
“IT happens every time,” said the Mad Hatter.
Back with Alice she was a little more confused about the Jabberwocky. She did feel a little scared of it. But she hadn’t seen one yet so she didn’t fully know what it looked like. All she could do was try and picture it in her mind.
“So what do you think I should do if I ever run into this Jabberwocky?” asked Alice. She wasn’t aware that forty miles away the King of Hearts was getting onto his throne when his back snapped.
“I’d tell you to run,” replied the little creature. “Run as far as your legs can carry you and don’t look back.”
“Alright. By the way which way is east?”
“What do I look like a compass?”
The little creature then went into his hole once again. Alice just sighed and she began to walk away. She hoped that she wouldn’t run into this Jabberwocky anytime soon. If she did she would try and run like she had been told.
All she could do was walk in which ever direction she thought was east or even west. If she went any other way she would be lost once again. She just hoped that her luck would hold out on her.
But after miles of walking there still seemed to be no sign of civilization. It also felt like it was getting warmer so she rubbed some of the sweat off of her forehead. She guess that it had to be summer now.
“Guess I’ve gone the wrong way,” she said to herself. She then sighed. “I’m just not having much luck today. I bet I’ll even run into the Jabberwocky sometime soon. That’ll be just my luck.” Not too far away tree branch broke off the tree and fell to the ground. But there was no one around to see or hear it.
But as Alice kept walking she thought she saw a house. At first she thought she had just been seeing things. But when she got closer she could see more and more houses. There were several other buildings and she realised that she had stumbled upon a small town. She gave out a sigh of relief.
But when she actually got to town all the residents saw her and they began to panic and run.
“No wait,” she said.
“A giant!” shouted a resident.
“Attack Alpha times omega,” replied another resident.
The townspeople the got into their homes and locked to doors. Alice went to one of the windows and knocked on the wooden panels. She waited but no one answered. She was getting a little annoyed.
“I’m not going to hurt anyone,” she said. “If you didn’t mind I’m hungry so I just wanted a bite to eat.”
“Not on us!” shouted a random voice.
“Of course not I don’t eat people.”
“In that case.”
Everyone then came out of hiding and lined the streets. Alice was amazed with just how fast it had all happened. One second it had been completely empty but now it was full of people wanting to see her.
“If its food you want then food you’ll get,” said a townsperson. “What do you fancy today? Newt’s tail? Horse’s nose?”
“How about a normal apple. Either red or green. And definitely not either blue or purple.”
“Right.”
“Thank you.”
The townspeople then began to pass some apples to Alice and she began to eat them very quickly. It took several minutes and many, many apples for Alice to eat her fill. She seemed to be happy now that her hunger had been satisfied. She went to go and walk away.
“Where are you going?” asked a Townsperson.
“I guess I’m going to get a drink from a lake,” replied Alice.
“But you’ve got to pay for the apples.”
“But I don’t have any money.”
“Then what else do you have?”
Alice then began to search her pockets. She quickly found the mushrooms but she wanted to keep these since they were essentials for her. But eventually she found a thimble in her pocket. Thankfully it had grown like she had and was now seemingly giant size.
“How about this?” she asked holding the thimble.
“That’ll do,” replied the townsperson.
“Oh good.”
“Now you may leave.”
“Ok.” She then walked away. “And thanks again for the apples.”
“You’re welcome. But watch out for that…” Just then Alice’s foot went into a hole and she fell over. “Hole.”
Alice had hurt herself a little but she slowly got back up onto her feet and kept walking. She had been seeing all the downsides of being a giant. She didn’t think things could get any worse for her.
She just walked along and she looked for any sign of a lake. She was beginning to get thirsty and at first she was losing hope that she would ever see one. But only after a few minutes she saw one y a group of trees.
Alice quickly raced over to it and she went to drink it. But then a thought came into her head.
“I better not drink it yet,” said Alice. “I could very well be dirty and make me sick.” She then looked at the water and it was crystal clear. She saw her reflection in it and this made her happier. “It looks safe.”
She then began to cup the water in her hand and she drank it. The water itself tasted very nice and she carried on drinking it. But one of her cups had a fish in it and she was about to drink it.
“No wait!” shouted the fish.
“What?” replied Alice. She looked at her hand and she saw the fish. “Oh I’m sorry.” She then put it back into the water and it came up to the surface. “I didn’t mean to try and eat you.”
“Well you almost did.”
“I’m sorry. But I only wanted a drink.”
“Most people who come here do that. But you’ll drink too much and dry out the entire lake.”
“Hey I won’t drink that much.”
“You’ll say that now but just you wait.”
“Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?”
“Well you can no drink the water.”
“Alright.”
“And defeat the Jabberwocky.”
Meanwhile on the beach the Griffin and the Mock Turtle were playing Badminton. But the Griffin’s racket broke into two pieces. He seemed to be disappointed with what had just happened.
“Guess I win,” said the Mock Turtle.
“No fair,” replied the Griffin.
Back with Alice she stood up quickly. She didn’t want to fight the Jabberwocky since she had heard about its ferocious behaviour. She took a step back but she still looked at the fish.
“I can’t fight that,” said Alice.
“Sure you can,” replied the Fish. “You’re big enough.”
“But I’m a little girl.”
“Little?”
“I was. But I can’t fight.”
“Sure you can. Everyone can fight.”
“But I’m not supposed to get into fights. I’m suppose to just help people out in anyway I can.”
“And this’ll help us. Wonderland will be a much happier place with that big bully gone.”
“Even if I did want to fight him I have no idea where he is.”
“That’s easy.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Because he’s right behind you.”
“What?” Alice then turned around and expected to see the Jabberwocky. But she didn’t see anything. “Hey that wasn’t funny.” She then turned around expecting to see the fish. But instead now she saw the Jabberwocky. She was instantly caught by fear and she took a step back. “T-the Jabberwocky.”
“Present,” replied the Jabberwocky.
Meanwhile at the White Rabbit’s house he was standing on a huge wooden ship. He seemed to be very proud of himself. She smiled a little and put his hands on his hips while he looked around.
“Finally I’ve done it,” said the White Rabbit. “The Wonderland Life size model of the HMS Victory is complete. Now just to add the finishing touches.” But then he began to hear a strange sound. “What was that?”
But before the White Rabbit could do anything about it his model began to fall apart. He looked around and saw that everything was coming down on him. It only took seconds for the once mighty ship to be nothing more then a heap of wood on the ground. The White Rabbit eventually came out of the wreckage. But he was extremely disappointed with what he was seeing.
“I better get myself another hobby,” said the White Rabbit. “I’ve heard boxing is very rewarding.”
Back with Alice she was still in fear. She had never been this scared before in Wonderland. She took another step back and she wanted to run. But something inside her wouldn’t let her run. She stood there and an angry expression came onto her face. She was tired of feeling insecure about her height. She was sick of feeling that she was a freak. Now she had something to take it out on.
“Come be a good girl and run away,” said the Jabberwocky.
“No,” replied Alice.
“What did you say?”
“I’m not going to let someone like you push me around.” She then walked towards him. “I’ve been told to be afraid of you. But I’ve had enough of feeling sorry for myself. You push people around just because you’re bigger then they are. Well I’m your size so are you going to pick on me?”
“Well I…”
“No you’re not.” She hadn’t noticed but the Jabberwocky was getting smaller. “You’re nothing more then a bully.”
The Jabberwocky rapidly shrank and now he was no bigger then a sparrow. He looked up at the giant Alice and now it was him that was in fear. He was absolutely terrified of her.
“Now get out of my sight,” said Alice.
The Jabberwocky then began to fly away and Alice watched him for a few minutes. But when he was out of sight she began to feel happy about herself. She was even able to crack a smile.
“That was more rewarding then I thought,” said Alice to herself. “Maybe being big isn’t all that bad.”
Just then more animals began to pop out of holes in the ground. Others were hiding in various different places like caves and trees. They all seemed to be happy and they were singing and dancing all over the place. Alice just watched them and she didn’t try and stop them or even interrupt them.
“He’s gone,” sang the animals. “He’s really, really gone.”
Alice was happy to see that she had done some good with her new size. It gave her a sense of self-satisfaction. It almost made the misery if being a giant go away. At least for now she seemed to be happy.
Alice walked away and she could still hear the little animals singing. She hoped that they would be happy forever. But while she walked away she realised more that her size wasn’t just a curse. It could also be used as a blessing. She could really use her size to help people. Or even become famous in the real world. People would actually walk up to her and ask for an autograph.
Alice realised that she was getting ahead of herself. It was going to be a few years before she became an adult and reached her full height. But for now she didn’t mind using her imagination.
But right now Alice felt a little lonely. She had all these thought and she wanted to share them with someone. But there was no one around to share them with. She just had to think of her thoughts and keep them inside. But she had to admit even a giant needed to have friends.
“Even that bird who thought I was a serpent would be nice to have around now,” said Alice. She then sighed. “I guess loneliness is another downside to being a giant.” She gave out another sigh. “But I guess I can get use to it eventually.”
But then she saw something fly onto her shoulder. She looked at it and she saw that it was the Robin once again. She was happy to see him again and she gave him a pleasant smile.
“Hey there Robin,” said Alice.
“I’m glad to see that you’ve gotten yourself out from between those mountains,” replied the Robin.
“I did it thanks to you.”
“And you seem a lot happier then the last time I saw you.”
“Yes I actually beat the Jabberwocky.”
Just then the Walrus and the Carpenter were just about to have their lunch. But their knives and forks quickly broke.
Back with Alice she was still very happy to see the Robin. She was even stroking his head with her finger.
“So you took my teachings to heart,” said the Robin.
“I certainly did,” replied Alice.
“That is good. There is nothing you can’t accomplish.”
“Yeah well it took me a while to figure that out. But most of my fears were in my head. When I looked at the positives instead of the negatives things seemed to be better then I first thought.”
“That is good.”
“And I have you to thank.”
“No you should be thanking yourself. I only gave you a small amount of inspiration. Anything else came from you directly.”
“I guess you’re right.”
Just then she began to hear someone crying. She stopped dead in her tracks and tried to listen to it again.
“Did you hear that?” asked Alice.
“Hear what?” replied Robin.
Just then she heard the crying sound again and she looked towards where she thought the sound was coming from.
“That,” she said.
“I did that time,” replied the Robin.
She then began to walk towards where the crying was coming from. She eventually came up to a little girl sitting on a large rock. She was crying her eyes out and Alice squatted down to her.
“What’s wrong?” asked Alice.
“I’m small,” replied the little girl quietly.
“What was that?”
“I said I’m too small. I’m the shortest person in my village and everyone keeps picking on me.”
“Well being small isn’t so bad.”
“You can talk. You’re a giant.”
“Sometimes size doesn’t matter. We were made a certain height for a reason.”
“To get picked on.”
“In my world a lot of girls picked on me for being taller then all of them. But it wasn’t until now that I’ve learned that there might be downsides to a height. But it can also have its upsides.”
“Like what?”
“Like you can get into places that other people can’t get to. If you wanted to you could be a jockey.”
“I guess so.”
“See every cloud has a silver lining. When I first became this height all I could find were the downsides and it made me depressed. But now that I’m finding the upsides its making me feel better.”
“But that’s not the only reason I’m upset.”
“It’s not?”
“No my kite got stuck and I’m too small to get it down.”
Alice looked and she saw the kite stuck in the tree. She quickly grabbed it from the tree and gave it back to the little Girl.
“See now you have your kite back,” said Alice.
“Thank you,” replied the Little Girl.
“Well you might never know. You might start off short but you may eventually grow very tall.”
“You really think that’ll happen?”
“There’s a good chance.”
“Thank you.”
The girl then began to skip away. She was happy with what she had been told and Alice also felt happy. She was glad that she could help her with her little issue. But by now Alice was feeling more comfortable with herself. She stood up again and she smiled to herself.
“That was a very good thing you did there Alice,” said Robin.
“I guess it was,” replied Alice.
“You have shown that you can dedicate your time and effort to others. That is a very good quality young lady.”
“But she made me realise. I don’t really care how tall I become. I can always find uses for my size that can truly benefit people.”
“That’s a positive way of thinking.”
But just then Alice saw Dr Heinz running to her. He was out of breath the moment he got to her and he almost collapsed. But he was just able to stay up onto his feet and looked up at Alice.
“Alice I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” said Dr Heinz. “I almost thought I wouldn’t find you.”
“What’s the matter?” replied Alice.
“Well you ran off earlier and I wanted to know if you’re alright.”
“I’m alright now. Thanks to you I know I’ll be 18’4 when I grow up.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Your invention said I’d be 18’4 tall.”
“No it said 184 centimetres tall.”
“It did?”
“Yeah you got mixed up.”
“So how tall will I be in feet and inches?”
“A little over 6 feet tall.”
“That’s great.” She then cleared her throat. “I mean that it is a little taller then I’d like to be. But it’s a lot better then being a giant.”
“I guess it is.”
“Well since I don’t going to be this large when I grow up I can shrink myself back down to normal.”
“Wait just before you do you wouldn’t mind just doing me one favour?”
“What’s that?”
“Just give me a ride back to my lab.”
“Ok I guess.”
She then put her hands on Heinz’s sides and lifted him up. He was roughly the size of a toddler compared to her. He put him on her shoulders and Robin flew onto his shoulder. Alice smiled a little.
“I guess now you can tell me which way the lab is,” said Alice.
“I forgot,” replied Heinz.
“Then I guess I’ll just have to find it the old fashioned way.”
“But that’ll take forever.”
“Oh well.”
Alice then began to run straight forwards. It was becoming late evening in Wonderland and very soon it would be night. But she didn’t really mind how long it would take to get to the lab. She was just happy knowing that when she did grow up she would be relatively normal.
The next day was Monday and once again Alice was in school. She had left that weekend feeling depressed but now her spirits had been given a much needed boost. She didn’t feel any grief about her height. She just felt like she was a normal girl once more. She put everything else into the back of her mind.
When it was break time again the girls who had taunted Alice They were laughing at Alice and she looked at them.
“Oh what’s the matter?” asked one of the girls. “Too tall Alice got no one to play with?” She then laughed. “Doesn’t surprise me one bit.”
“I don’t need to take this,” replied Alice. “I’m happy with my height. If you’re tease me about my height it means that there’s something about yourself that you’re not very happy about.”
“What?”
“Is it that you’re too short? Or is it the fact that your hair is too boring? Oh wait it could be the fact that you’ve got spots.”
“Hey stop it freak.”
“As far as I can see I’m better off then you.”
“No you’re going to be an overgrown freak.”
“At least I’ll still have my looks. That’s a lot more then I can say for you, you little troll.”
The girl then turned around and went off. She was grumbling to herself and Alice felt happy about herself. She just walked towards the fence between the boys’ and girls’ school. She looked at them and she just gave out a sigh.
“Hi there,” said a voice.
Alice looked and saw Reginald. She was almost speechless and she just gazed into his blue eyes.
“R-r,” replied Alice.
“Reginald’s the name. And you’re Celia?”
“No its Alice.”
“That’s a very nice name. I must say that you’re a very pretty girl.”
“Thank you.”
“I’ve seen you looking at me from time to time.”
“I wasn’t spying on you if that’s what you think.”
“No I don’t think that. I just liked knowing that someone was paying attention to me that’s all.”
“Oh.”
“I’ve also seen you from the playground. I’ve seen you get picked by those mean girls.” He then shook his head. “You really don’t deserve that kind of treatment. Pretty girls shouldn’t be upset.”
“Well I guess I’ve outgrown their bullying.” She giggled a little to herself. “I don’t think they’ll be bothering me anymore.”
Just then the pair heard a bell ring. They realised that their break time was over. They looked at each other once again.
“Guess I better go,” said Reginald.
“Yeah,” replied Alice.
“Same time tomorrow?”
“Sure.”
Reginald then walked away. Alice was still a little star struck. She couldn’t believe that Reginald had actually talked to her.
“He actually noticed me,” she said.
But then she began to hear another bell ring. This time it was for her and she looked back towards the school.
“Oh well.”
She then walked back into the school. Alice was going to have to go through all the lessons. But this time at least she could go through it with a huge smile on her face. Things were definitely looking up for her.
