Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my distinct pleasure to introduce you to a new friend of mine…Old Warrior.
Old Warrior is just that…old. Hehe. No, really, he served in the United States Army from 1963 until 1985. He is a vocal patriot and a strong supporter of the military, but also has a kind heart and a generous spirit. He has embraced many members of the writing dot com community and earned their respect through his deeds and his writings. He was in Vietnam for two tours, including the battles of Hamburger Hill and the Iron Triangle. I don’t understand all the military ranks and duties, so when I read a newspaper article about his military career I was overcome with the numbers… “He was platoon leader in over 60 battles; including 5 major battles”, “Master Paratrooper who has jumped over 840 times and as high as 10,000 feet.”, “He received 3 Purple Hearts, (7 wounds), 4 Bronze Stars for Valor, a Silver Star, a Cross of Gallantry, 28 decorations and 87 citations.” He is currently disabled after surviving a land mine that damaged both lungs. That doesn’t hold him back, though. As we all know he’s very active in the writing community. He was a newspaper editor for a few years, tried his hand at other civilian jobs, and then returned to newspapering for the last dozen years or so. Here again, he was awarded for his efforts with 68 Mississippi Press Editorial Awards. He has written six novels, "Fame's Eternal Camping Ground : The Civil War Battle of Brice's Crossroads” is available for sale. I have the honor of helping him with his current project, the editing of a Civil War novel for publication. He has a great understanding of history. It’s not all about the numbers, the battles or the politics with Old Warrior. It’s about the people. Real people lived through the Civil War and Old Warrior has a knack for getting those people to talk to him when he writes. In addition to his writing, Old Warrior creates oil paintings, enjoys cooking and is an active member of the Native American Community. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, he grew up with his grandmother, a full-blooded Cherokee. He has led and interesting life, to say the least, and I look forward to learning more about my new friend as time goes on. I encourage you to take a look at his work and send him an email if you find anything in his portfolio that strikes a chord with you. I’ve found that he’s very personable and responsive to every note I’ve sent to him and I’m sure he’d love to hear from you…
