SHADOWS: a sonnet
When shadows darken on the horizon And creep slowly into my broken heart, I know too well, in my mental prison, A night of torture is going to start. A lonely night, remembering my life, My days when I too was a happy man, When I caressed fondly my loving wife And braved the war as leader of my clan. The memory of those colourful days, When I did shape my life with my own hand, Now, hauntingly, on my lonely mind plays, Reminding me, life is written in sand. Forsaken by all, crippled in the mind, No one has for me a word that is kind. *Awarded third prize in Wolfie's Prompt Challenge, "Wolfie's Prompt Challenge" M C Gupta 29 March 2009
