SLIPPING LOVE: a sonnet

Although I hold you tight against my breast,
I know in other thoughts you are engaged.
Gone are the days when you could not arrest
Your racing heart when my shadow you chased.

I know you are slipping away from me.
I know that now I cannot hold you back.
I know from me you now want to break free.
I know our bond has now suffered a crack.

But what I don’t know is the reason why
You have abandoned me and my friendship.
Why did you want to give my love a try,
When you knew well that one day you would slip?

In spite of this I don’t want to lose you.
May your heart verily for me cry too.
