                                          Ghazal 242


Persian:  Ba jaan e peer e kharabaat o haq e sohbat e o
              Keh neest dar sar e mun juz hawa e khidmat e o
Urdu:      Ba jaan e peer e kharabaat o haq e sohbat e o
              Keh sar maen hay na meray juz khayaal e khidmat e o

English:=== I swear by the service of the abbot of the pub
                  His place wIll always be my spiritual hub
                                              -

Persian:  Bahisht agar cheh na ja e gunaahgaaraanast
              Biyaar baada keh mustazharam ba rehmat e
Urdu:      Bahisht maana naheen ja gunaahgaaroun ki
              Bharosa mujh ko bohat hay magar ba rehmat e o

English:=== And though I deserve not the heavenly bliss
                  My Lord will forgive my being remiss
                                            -

Persian:  Charaagh e saaiqa e aan sharaab roshan baad             
              Keh zad ba kharman e mun aatish e mohabbat e o
Urdu:      Charaagh e saaiqa e mai ho is terheh roshan
              Lagaaay dil maen meray aatish e mohabbat e o

English:=== And yes, I love to drink the wine
                  But in it I see His image divine
                                              -

Persian:  Bar aastaana e maikhaana gar saray beeni
              Mazan ba paay keh maaloom neest niyyat e o
Urdu:      Bar aastaana e maikhaana sar agar daekhay
              Laga na thokar usay, jaanay kya hay niyyat e o

English:=== So when you see me in the tavern drunk
                  Please don't treat me like a skunk

Persian:  Biyaar baada keh doosham saroosh e aalam e ghaib
              Naveed daad keh aam ast faiz e rehat e o
Urdu:      Pilaao baada keh laaya saroash ghaib say yeh
              Naveed e naek keh hay aam faiz e rehmat e o

English:=== Last night the angel of God did come
                  And said in Heaven we're all welcome
                                              - 

Persian:  Makun ba chashm e hiqaarat nigaah bar mun e mast
              Keh neest maasiyat o zohd baimashiat e o
Urdu:      Na daal chashm e hiqaarat too shaikh mastoun per
              Keh hay na zohd o khata koie baimashiat e o

English:=== So do not disdain me if I'm a bum
                  We're all His children, smart or dumb

Persian:  Nameekunad dil e mun mayl e zohd o tabah walay
              Ba naam e khaja bakoosham o furr e doolat e o
Urdu:      Hay kaam kya mujhay tobah say per maen kerta houn
              Baraay qurbat e khaja, baraay doulat e o

English:=== I'm not by nature a pious man
                  But I try to be good as much as I can

Persian:  Dila tamay mabar az lutf e bainihaayat e doost
              Keh neest juz karam o rehm e khalq raghbat e o
Urdu:      Milay ga tujh ko bhee dil lutf e bainihaayat e Haq
              Keh hay na juz karam o rehm e khalq raghbat e o

English:=== And though I'm a sinner and a bumbling clod
                  I believe in the kindness and the mercy of God

Persian:  Mudaam khirqa e HAFIZ ba baada dar giro ast
              Magar zay khaak e kharaabat bood fitrat e o
Urdu:      Raha hay khirqa e HAFIZ sharaab maen girvi
              Bani hay khaak e kharaabaat say jo fitrat e o

English:=== And when he sees me in my sorry state
                  Says HAFIZ always that it is my fate
