The Liar
A poem about the damage done to friendship by lies and deceit

The Liar

These lies you weave are thin and frail.
Your life is ruled by charming betrayal.
Deceit must warm you and jealousy comfort.
If you cannot have it, you must destroy it.

There was no need for you to do this,
Smile, pretend, and ruin friendships.
Do you not love yourself at all?
Do you gain strength while others fall?

I did forgive you, that’s my weakness,
The problem is you are compulsive.
Double-sided and conniving,
You set me up with all your lying.

What you don’t know and where you’re wrong
Is all your hate has made me strong.
My trust and faith in truer friends
Shows me love and I can mend.

And where does that leave you, the liar?
Alone and struggling. Anger. Fire.
Believe that what I say is true
The only one you hurt is you.
