BETTER YIELD TO FOOLS: a sonnet

No I shall not allow myself to be
Lured by fools to an unseemly duel.
Of my words and thoughts they are not worthy
For whom intelligence is too cruel.

It has been said wisely in days of yore:
Better yield to fools than argue with them.
Else, certainly you’ll lose peace of mind your
When fools create silly mental mayhem.

When ignorance is bliss, why be then wise?
When wisdom is a curse, why display it?
For arguing with fools there is a price:
The men of credit come to discredit.

Better keep them at a full arm’s distance.
But don’t anger them, keep up a pretence.
