Sun beating down Hot, dry. Lost in the desert With only him. He won’t shut up. Jokes that aren’t funny. I want to punch him, But haven’t the energy. On we trek during the night “Days we rest,” he says. “Good idea,” I agree. Why can’t he keep quiet?! “Ration water,” He reminds As another wisecrack Falls from his lips. Civilization, Where art thou? I must find somebody, Anyone other than him. Another mirage, Though he says otherwise. Towards it we Drag ourselves. Arms wrap around me, Laying me on a cot, Cool water with Small bites of food. “Thank you,” I say, “We Thank you very much.” “We who?” they ask, “Only You came out of the desert.” I glance around, Wondering where he went. As my head clears, I realize There was no one else. I walked the desert alone.
