The Act
My overwrought reaction to a disastrous two-night stand.

did you think
just because it was dawn

that life would be renewed
that the birds would sing
that the slate would be cleaned
that the breeze would carry the faint scent of spring
in through the window
like last minute redemption

did you think
that the act
that had illicited sobs in the darkness
might inspire smiles in the light

did you really think

that I could forgive you?
