List of Prompts
Good Friday, Easter basket, chocolate bunny, space ship, ham dinner, sunrise service, golf --- Abe and Cy engage in serious discussion: “Whatcha makin?” “I’m knitting a basket” “You don’t knit a basket, you weave a basket.” “OK, I’ll stop knitting and start weaving. Anyway it’s an Easter basket.” “Why do you think it’s an Easter basket?” “Because today is Good Friday.” “No, tomorrow is Good Friday.” “Tomorrow is Saturday.” “Yeah, but this is a leap year, so Good Friday is on Saturday.” “Oh, then I’ll have to stop knitting until tomorrow if I want it to be an Easter basket.” “So what are we having for dinner?” “I heard it’s ham.” “A ham dinner? I hope it’s kosher ham. I’m Jewish, you know and I only eat kosher ham, especially on Easter. And I want a chocolate bunny for dessert. Easter is very important for us.” “I heard we are having a sunrise service.” “What’s a sunrise service?” “It has something to do with playing tennis or golf. It’s when you put the ball in play early in the morning.” Then, a sudden shift in tone. “How do you think we’re doing?” “Pretty good. I think we’ve practiced enough. We’ve mastered their language and customs. We should be able to fool the humans.” “Let’s do it then. Land the space ship and we’ll get started. They’ll never know we’re not from earth.” “Yeah, thank goodness for Wikipedia. How does my helmet look?” “Fine, and my armor?” “Good. Their spears and arrows can’t touch us.” “OK, here we go – to the new colony.” Just then the Supreme Commander enters their space. “Enough you two – back to your rooms. Medication time and then lights out. Tomorrow is visiting day. Maybe you will have some family come to visit. I’ll give you a day pass if you behave.” “Thanks, good night Doctor. Happy Easter.” “Good night guys, and Happy Easter to you. I think you’re both showing progress.” (311 words)
