Kyra ran her hand across the satin fabric of her cocktail dress. Instead of black she had chosen and irridescent deep indigo. In the light of her bedroom it shimmered from blue to purple and then to black. The bodice had a sweetheart collar covered in a black lace. In the mirror she looked at her reflection. Her brown hair was dyed a blue black that made her face seem pale, almost ethereal. Turning sideways she smiled at the reflection her new figure in its padded foundation. A once flat butt was now curvaceous. In the sleek dress with her large breasts and now a butt to match, she was going to be one hot woman. She gave a giggle of glee that turned to a high pitched cackle. Quickly she covered her mouth to stifle the sound. A long highly blue black polished nail traced the invitation to the cocktail party. The new robotic product was going to be announced that evening. In bold letters it announced the name of the CEO and lead Project Manager that would be presenting the product. The nails scratched the paper deeply. The highly mascara brushed eyelashes narrowed to a slit. Just four weeks ago she had presented to David Snell the finished prototype of her invention. “David you will love what I have done to the KY2A robot.” Kyra announced as she peeked into his office. He turned his handsome face with blond wavy hair and deep blue eyes to her. He sighed and it wasn’t a good one. “What do you have for me now Ms. Jones?” He continued to pound away on his keyboard. She wondered how many he went though. He must like to hear the sound of his fingers banging on the keys. “I know you didn’t like the last robot I brought you, but this one I guarantee is a great improvement.” There was a click and a click, a small hum. The noise got his attention and he turned in his chair, facing the woman who sat across from him. “Okay, show me.” He folded his arms on the table. “What is it that you want a robot to do?” He frowned and leaned back in his leather chair. “I want a robot that is lifelike, learns by analyzing every action and reaction.” The sly grin spread across his face. “Of course it must be anatomically correct.” The woman stood and walked to him and slapped him across the face so hard he fell off his chair. “What the h---?” He gazed up at the woman. The office door opened and in walked Kyra. David slowly stood and faced the two females that were identical. “Wha-!? Which one of you is real?” “I have made KY2A as real as any droid you have ever seen on a sci-fi movie. You can program them for an escort, office administrator, nanny, housekeeper, butler, or at worst, a fighter.” This was said by the second woman. David looked at both women. He stood and moved slowly toward the first one, careful not to get too close. Then he looked at the second woman. Reaching out a tentative palm he touched her face. “You are the real one.” “How do you know?” He grinned and moved a little closer. “You turned your cheek, just slightly, into my palm.” She shrugged and stepped back. “Well, you guessed right. However the fact that you couldn’t tell which one was real is still the issue here.” David walked around the artificial intelligent robot. “She is so real looking. She speaks just like you and she has your mannerisms.” Kyra raised her eyebrows, “How do you know?” “Honey, women are my specialty. Whether you look like Susan up in HR or like Mrs. Kentworth in the cafeteria, I know women.” His smug smile irritated her. “I wanted you to see KY2A before I took her up to Mr. Chilton. He has been chomping at the bit to see what this company he bought can produce. I want to show him that this year of 2025 we now have the ultimate prototype.” “Ah, well yes Kyra that is a great idea. I think Mr. Chilton has been out of town this week. Why don’t you wait until Monday to show him this break through. I will make sure you have the entire morning to put the little droid through her paces.” He put his hands on her shoulders and kissed her forehead. “You have done a great job. I am so proud of you. This will set our little team way out in front of all the other teams trying to lobby for money for their projects. You will get a big bonus, I will see to that.” Monday she entered the hallway to her lab. There was a buzz of conversation. “Did you see him?” “He is so real looking. I hear he can carry on a conversation.” Kyra’s heart began to beat so hard she thought it was pound outside her chest. She hurried to her lab, unlocked the door pushing it open to slam against the wall. The locker where she had kept KY2A was ajar. The filing cabinets were open and some lying on the floor, the folders strewn as if someone had gone through them and dumped them when they didn’t find what they wanted. While she had been careful about hiding her work, she never thought someone would break in and steal from her. She picked up the folders and set them on her desk to arrange later. Her anger rose and almost choked her. Bile fought for release but she swallowed hard to keep it down. Turning on her flat, black, rubber soled shoes, she marched down the hall. She ignored the feverish conversation. At David’s office she thrust the door open. “Miss Jones did you hear the news? David has finally brought his secret project to work. He is wonderful-“ David's assistant gushed. “Where is he?” Kyra bit out. “He has been up in Mr. Chilton’s office since early this morning. He told me that he made a secret meeting with Mr. Chilton so other departments wouldn’t try to steal his project before he could show it to the boss man. Oh I have a message for you. You are to go right up to the boardroom when you got in.” The young woman tittered and Kyra held twisted her hands to keep from slapping her. She whirled and made her way to the boardroom at the top of the building. “Miss Jones. Come in they are waiting for you.” Gloria, Mr. Chilton’s admin-assistant pointed to the door. Kyra brushed passed her and pushed the door open. Four men stood in a semi-circle, their backs to her. David turned to face her. His eyes bored into hers as his mouth stretched into a grin. “Ms. Jones, thank you for coming so quickly.” He took a step toward her but stopped when he saw her expression. The three remaining men turned to her with wide smiles. “Miss. Jones, you and David here have made an amazing Artificial Intelligence. He speaks and learns as quickly as any AI that has been made in the past. There are a myriad of jobs and placements this robot can handle.” Elvin, the CEO stepped toward her his hand extended. Kyra shook it and the hands of the other two men. They were introduced as the Stephen, VP and the Kevin, Head of Production. “I am amazed that you came up with this prototype without anyone seeing it or testing it.” Kevin, shook his head and then turned to David. “You have all the receipts for this? You have all the paperwork to back this up?” David grinned, “After I designed the AI, I gave the plans to Miss Jones who translated them into what you see. I worked closely with her on this, but we made sure it was done secretly. I didn’t want anyone trying to steal the project. I knew that once we showed the prototype, we wouldn’t be able to keep it out of espionage communications. What do you think of him?” Kyra had been staring at the AI robot. David had somehow found her alternate face choice and exchanged it with the one that looked like her twin. The robot winked at her and stood up moving to David. Its hand grasped the back of his neck in what looked to everyone else a friendly gesture. .David fought the pain by trying to step away, the robot increased the hold. David stood still. “David my friend, we will work well together.” The voice was identical to David’s and the three men stared at the robot. “Amazing.” Kevin shook his head, “It even can mimic a voice.” Elvin stepped forward, “I am going to have a grand revealing of this AI. Can you have it ready in three weeks?” “Ready for what?” David choked still trying to move out of the robot’s grip. “You will need to have documentation of what it is capable of doing. What it learns and how fast it learns. What the limitations are.” He called his Admin Assistant, “Mary Kay, see to it that we have an unveiling in three weeks. Invite all the press and the normal tech people along with appropriate government officials.” She nodded and her spike heels clicked on the tile as they hurried back to her office. “Take your robot back to the lab and start getting it ready. I will have one of the managers write up the tests you will need to have it run through.” He dismissed the three and turned to the other men. He expected Kyra, David and KY2A to slink back to their hole. Kyra turned and walked away. The Robot, still clutching David’s neck followed her. When they were back in the lab, the robot let go of David pushing him father into the room. “How did you find the alternate faces?” Kyra asked, picking up some of the folders on the floor. “I didn’t. What happened here?” He walked around avoiding the mess. “Don’t play games with me. You did this when you were taking my robot.” David sat down and gave her a helpless look. “Honestly, I had nothing to do with trashing your lab. Yes I came in to talk to you about making a deal. I did not trash this office. I thought you were going to come in this morning and show the Director. I got a call on my cell phone telling me to bring the robot up. The robot was sitting by the door in the other room, just the way you see it dressed now. I was angry that I didn’t get to talk to you before you set up the meeting. You went over my head on this.” He narrowed his eyes and clenched his fists. Before Kyra could answer, KY2A stood and moved to David, who shrank back into the chair. It spoke in Elvin's voice. “You will not say a thing to anyone. You will do exactly what you are told.” Then turned to Kyra, “You are going to get in touch with Mary Kay and tell her that you want things done the way you want. You have plans.” A finger pointed to the file on the edge of the desk. “You read my files? You made the mess?” Kyra was amazed, proud and afraid at the same time. When she called Mary Kay there was a discussion with Elvin and her ideas were approved. Three days before the party she was called to his office. “Miss Jones I want you to meet Gen. Charles McKeen. He is here to see the robot “Sir, we are not showing the robot until the reveal. There are still some tests that we have to work on.” “I am sure that what you showed me is enough to satisfy the government.” He motioned for the General to follow Kyra, but she didn’t move. “I don’t think this is a wise move. The robot isn’t ready to perform.” Elvin frowned, “We don’t need a performance. The General wants to see it and speak to it. I don’t want to have to call David. After all this is his project. You just work for him.” He bit out and moved passed her to the door the General following. The door started to close and Kyra followed. The General watched as KY2A answered the questions he asked. He was amazed at the way the robot spoke competently. “I think we need to look into this a little more. I want you to cancel the revealing party.” Elvin sputtered, “We have it set up, some of the guests have arrived, and there is a small cocktail party the night before, then the reveal. We can’t cancel at this date.” “I don’t care what you use as an excuse, cancel the party.” He turned to leave. “That is not going to happen, General.” The robot spoke. “What? Are you talking to me?” He stared at the robot as if a chair spoke out loud. “I said the party is not going to be cancelled. You came here for a preview and got it. That is all you get. You and your team can show up like everyone else and see the show.” The robot looked directly at the general staring at him until the General swore and turned, stomping out the door. Kyra Jones sashayed down the hall, KY2A walked next to her, dressed in khaki slacks, crew neck shirt and a sport jacket. David had done the honors, wanting the robot to mirror his style rather than the shock he had received when KY2A looked like Kyra. “Kyra, you don’t have to worry about anything any more.” The robot spoke, this time using David's voice. It irritated her. “What do you mean?” She was still a little unsteady on the heels and the tight skirt restricted her ordinarily long strides. “I have routed funds for you. It wasn’t hard. There are people in this company that do it all the time.” “Do what?” she asked absently. “Re-routing funds. You have a bank account off shore that rivals any executive.” Now she stopped. “You stole funds and put them in an account for me? How could you do that?” “They are going to cheat you out of everything you did.” “How do you know?” “Everyone thinks a robot can’t hear or think.” “What did you hear?” “Elvin is going to sell me to the highest bidder and it doesn’t matter who is paying. He has had an offer from some terrorist groups. It is all about the money not about science.” They turned and continued walking down the hall. “What are you planning?” she whispered. “Don’t worry. I know that you have taught me about right and wrong, being responsible for your actions. One thing you didn’t talk about but what I read; was that; you have a soul and I don’t. Here we are. See you on stage.” In the main auditorium, the guests were gathered, some seated while the rest stood around the room. Kyra stood off stage behind a curtain to watch the attendee's reactions. David called KY2A on to the stage. Dressed in his suit he conducted an interrogation then asked members of the audience to ask anything they wanted to. If it was something that KY2A had down loaded from his internet quests he answered it. If he didn’t know the answer he said so. The General asked him to perform some feat of strength. KY2A went off stage and came out with two huge automatic rifles. “When I watched TV, this is how you handle people who ask too many questions. In a matter of minutes, there was not one living person left in the room.
