                                          Ghazal 252


Persian:  Sahargaahaan keh makhmoor e shabaana
              Gariftam baada baa chang o chughaana
Urdu:      Sahar kay waqt makhmoor e shabaana
              Pioun maen baada baa chang o chughaana

English:=== Listening to the music, I drank all night
                  A headache in the morning only to invite
                                                -

Persian:  Nihaadam aql ra zaad e reh az mai
              Zay shehr e hastiash kardam rawaana
Urdu:      Maen day ker aql ko zaad e reh e mai
              Karoun hasti ki dunya say rawaana

English:=== With violets, and roses, and tulips in season
                  I had no use for my logic and reason
                                                  -

Persian:  Na bandi zaan mian tarfay kamarwaar
              Agar khud ra babeeni darmiaana
Urdu:      Kamardaaroun ka banta hay wo mehram
              Fana khud ko karay jo darmiaana

English:=== You just can't go and touch rainbow
                  Without first destroying your pride and ego
                                                    -

Persian:  Baroo, een daam bar murgh e digar neh
              Keh unqa ra buland ast aashiaana
Urdu:      Na aasaani say aaway daam maen wo
              Keh unqa ka hay ooncha aashiaana

English:=== No bait in the world will ever entice
                  A bird that is a bird of paradise
                                                  -

Persian:  Nadeem o mutrib o saaqi hama oost
              Khayaal e aab o gil dar reh bahaana
Urdu:      Nadeem o mutrib o saaqi wohi hay
              Khayaal e do jahaan sab ik bahaana

English:=== He is one in all and all in one
                  And besides him God there is none
                                                -

Persian:  Keh bandad tarf e wasl az husn e shaahay 
              Keh baa khud ishq warzad jaavedaana
Urdu:      Umeed e wasl ho us husn say kya
              Jisay khud say ho ishq e jaavedaana

English:=== If it's your Maker you want to meet
                  You must destroy your self-conceit
                                                  -

Persian:  Badeh kashti e mai ta khush baraayeem
              Az een darya e naapaidakaraana
Urdu:      Ho saaqi kashti mai aisi pukhta
              Karay jo paar behr e baykaraana

English:=== And take some wine when you go in the boat
                  If you want to stay on the sea afloat
                                                  -     

Persian:  Sara khaaliest az baigaana, mai noosh
              Keh nabwad juz to aey mard e yagaana
Urdu:      Makaan khaali hay baigaanoun say, mai pee
              Hay too hi ik yahaan mard e yagaana

English:=== Your love of self if you only can shun
                  You'll surely become the chosen one
                                                -

Persian:  Nigaaray maifaroosham ishwaay daad
              Keh aiman gashtam az makr e zammaana
Urdu:      Dikha saaqi kuchh aisay naaz o andaaz
              Keh day fursat mujhay makr e zamaana

English:=== And if you fall in love with the maid of the bar
                  She'll make you very happy and you'll go far
                                                -

Persian:  Zay saqi e kamaanabroo shuneedam
              Keh aey teer e malaamat ra nishaana
Urdu:      Aey saaqi e kamaanabroo na mujh ko
              Bana teer e malaamat ka nishaana

English:=== Her beautiful brows are like the bows
                  And deadly darts with them she throws
                                              -

Persian:  Wajood e ma moamma iest HAFIZ
              Keh tehqeeqash fasoon ast o fasaana
Urdu:      Wajood apna moamma aisa HAFIZ
              Keh hal us kay haen afsoon o fasaana

English:=== The secret of being since we cannot know
                  We should try, says HAFIZ, to go with the flow
