Minding Fido

We watch the sun break through the clouds; he thinks that I don’t know.
Know the awesome power he unleashes when he barks.
Barks as if to ask for treats or simply say hello.
Hello to the underworld’s eternity of sparks.

At first I thought I’d gotten such a normal household pet.
Pet him when I came from school or when we took a walk.
Walk this way or that he’d say, or else he’d get upset.
Upset was what I surely was on finding he could talk.

The first time that he spoke was just a couple short commands.
Commands that I ignored until he took over my mind.
Mind you, you don’t stand a chance when Satan makes demands.
Demands that you unleash his wrath against all human kind.

So when he barks and I watch as the clouds start to disperse.
Disperse to show the shining sun with awful burning rays.
Rays that take my self control and give me thoughts perverse.
Perverse ideas that emanate from his Satanic gaze.

My mind made up, I dedicate my energies to kill.
Kill the children of the town, and then the older folks.
Folks that I have known for years will shortly feel the chill.
Chill of my cold knife as it slides cleanly through their cloaks.

When I’ve killed the townsfolk for that hellish dog I own,
“own” is just a clever guise as he’s the one in charge,
charge him with my knife and for my wicked sins atone.
Atone for what he has unleashed, my inner beast at large.

Written for Day 10 of the "Rhythm & Rhyme ~ CLOSED!!! activity.

Form: Loop Poetry

Loop Poetry is a poetry form created by Hellon. There are no restrictions on the number of
stanzas nor on the syllable count for each line. In each stanza, the last word of the first line
becomes the first word of line two, last word of line 2 becomes the first word of line 3, last
word of line 3 becomes the first word of line 4. This is followed for each stanza. The rhyme
scheme is abcb.

I chose to make the rhyme scheme abab as it seemed more powerful that way.
