THE CARAVAN MOVES ON: a sonnet

Why waste abuses on one who is mean?
Why heap insult on the one who is dead?
Why chase the one who’s fleeting from the scene?
Why starve one to death by withholding bread?

Those who do have don’t show their own knowledge,
Nor proclaim they have high intelligence.
The wise gauge the waters from up the bridge;
They display not their angst but nonchalance.

Even as the dogs continue to bark;
The caravan moves on nevertheless.
Why not view the tiny, sweet singing lark,
Rather than vultures around the carcass?

The world is full of the good and the bad.
Some are ugly, some are handsomely clad.
