This was written by my friend Micah, whom I miss terribly.

i ain't askeered... not with Sarah
by Micah
----------------------

i have a new crush. her name is sarah. she's blue-eyed with blond whisps of hair sparsely placed on her pale head. she's very sweet. very cute. i like her. she likes me too.

i noticed her last week. she kept looking me over. she would smile, i would smile and then she would bury her face into her mother's arm.

today we started out much the same. then i saw her whisper to her mother... her mother looked at me and gave the ok. sarah came and sat down beside me. we didn't say much at first. just kept looking at each other and giggling. my heart was melting. she was stealin' it.

"you're my new friend." she said very sternly. clearly, she does the picking, and us lucky chosen, get to accept the new status.

"don't you think i should know your name at least?" i asked while i winked.

then an angel's voice spoke, "my name is sarah." she somehow knew my name already. i guess she heard my name called last week.

she held her hand out to me and told me i could hold her hand if i was scared. i asked why she thought i might be scared.

"you have all your hair. if you have all your hair, you are new. if you are new, you are scared."

"how did you get so smart?" i asked.

"i'm eight. i didn't know this stuff when i was seven."

i took her hand. we just sat there. all 6 ft. of me, and i'm guessing just shy of 4 ft of her. me drawing strength from this tiny bundle with the sweetest smile. i didn't feel so scared in that moment.

My friend is dying,
and it breaks my heart.
How often can you tell someone
you miss him,
without making him sadder, too?

My heart is full of pain and sorrow
he's so young
so full of love and laughter and life
Tears fill my heart every time I
think of him.

I need to be with him so I can
give him a hug. I miss him so much.

Another good-bye to sigh

loss fills my soul
having to say goodbye
hurts more than words can tell

Proud that Micah "thunderecho" thought of me as a friend.
