Catching Up
Well, it's been almost a year, since you moved on out of here. The culmination of our fears, swept away by bitter tears. Slowly I have been awoken, and here is my meager token, To express my pain at words unspoken, and the life that left you broken. It's just too bad that you couldn't stay, To let me say what I meant to say, give back the money I said I'd repay, and enjoy your simple and honest way. I'm sure you know we got the place, But I'll tell you again, just in case. And time's slow crawl will not erase, The memories of your gentle face. I guess that's about all to say, Your grandson's growing everyday, and maybe God will let us play, that final game of chess someday.
