He Said, She Said
![]() We were at a party just the other day, mostly married couples, I would have to say, and so the talk was driven by the ladies. Not subjects that husbands could talk about like sports or fly-fishing or even the drought but stories from our lives. It was pure Hades! I cleared my throat quite absent mindedly, causing everyone to turn and look at me because I was the first man to make a noise. Now you'd think, by now, I would have learned to stand there quietly and nod in turn, and smile politely like all the other boys. No... I recounted the tale of our first date and how it must have been the hand of fate that brought us to this state of married bliss. It was a fancy dinner as I recall. No, it was a movie at the Mall, she whispered in my ear with a warning hiss. I remember things went well that night. We argued and we had a fight. You didn't even get a goodnight kiss! Well, I said Black and she said White and she was always quite polite as she filled in the minor details that I missed. Like when and where and why and how that led us to the here and now, I wove them in as though they were a twist. Well, I told my tale quite happily and she kept on correcting me making all my memories dismembered. But all in all, I did quite well I kept the audience under my spell. Luckily, it all happened as I remembered. Notes My April entry for "PDG Poetry Workshop" Prompt: Open Form: Open Rhyme aab/ccb/dde/ffe... Thank you for taking time to read my words. I would appreciate it if you took a moment and left a comment. Your reaction, impressions, criticisms, - yes, even praise Ken
