THE PSEUDO INTELLECTUALS: a sonnet
When faced by those determined not to learn, The one who knows can’t do much to help them. When inmates are bent to their own house burn, No one can in fact prevent such mayhem. When thieves are busy stealing in one’s home, It’s plain folly to overlook their crime, Saying they suffer poverty syndrome, Need development in double quick time. Such pseudo intellectuals galore Are rather too common in India. They clamour to have power more and more, Pursuing a “secular” idea. That is the reason why they’re called pseudos. For their own ignorance they want kudos. • For the background of this sonnet, please see the sonnet "THE PSI: a sonnet " M C Gupta 26 April 2009
