A quest is a journey. Mine began December 19, 1951, the day I was born. From the time I can remember I felt an intimate connection to all that is Native American. I was puzzled by the things I instinctively knew within my soul, the ability to hear the whispers of Spirits.
I have been consumed by dreams and visions from a very early age. I had no explanation of these occurrences until later in life when I found out my Great-Great Grandmother was Choctaw. It explained why I was overwhelmed when visiting my Great-Grandfather who owned Nanih Wayia Mound. He later gave it to the state of Mississippi in hopes of preserving a sacred part of history. It explained the emotions that overtook me when at the Mound, or exploring the woods behind it leading to the swinging bridge and the caves that were closed. It explained my ability to communicate with wild and domestic animals, both silently and aloud. On this Quest called Life, I have always been a sponge for knowledge. The one thing I cannot get enough knowledge of is the Native American Heritage, the Old Ways so filled with Wisdom. Wisdom is the decision to do the right thing with the knowledge we have. It is my heart's desire to learn everything possible about the lessons taught, the lives lived, the wisdom imparted by elders of all Native American Tribes. Great Mystery has bestowed upon each individual the ability to harness and use these lessons. Few recognize this. Fewer still accept the responsibility of listening, hearing, feeling, experiencing and sharing this precious Knowledge thereby gaining Sacred Wisdom. It is my belief that Great Mystery guides my every step as long as I allow it. I have crossed paths with those as passionate about sharing the Wisdom of Native Ways, Cissy, Hannah, Ruby, and Nuda in particular. I believe God has led me to gain much of what is lacking in my Knowledge and Wisdom from them and others through WDC. The chance to take Native Writing Classes online across many miles gives me an awesome opportunity to learn how to better communicate these ways in Native Methods of Storytelling that cannot be learned through college courses. I cannot force anyone to accept these ways, but I can share them. I can offer age-old solutions to many of the problems of today's society. I enrolled in the classes offered by The First People's Tribe, The Writing Academy, and New Horizons to be able to cultivate the garden of my mind and soul in much the same way I plant my vegetable garden. Plow the fertile place, plant with seeds, watch them germinate and begin to grow. Weed out the unnecessary or harmful, fertilize the good and harvest a life sustaining crop called Wisdom. It is my expectation to gain a greater understanding of the Whispers of my Soul through these classes. I am convinced this is the Path I am to be on to become an Instrument of Great Mystery to share and teach His love and compassion for all Life.
