NA Writing II: Choctaw Flags
This lesson is about Choctaw Flags.

This assignment is about the Choctaw Flags. I was surprised to learn that the Choctaw Tribe has flags. I assume that the flags were made by the Choctaw Indians. Pirates have had their own flags like countries do. The Civil War and Union troops had their own flags as well. The first Choctaw flag was flown for the Oklahoma/Arkansas Choctaw regiment of the Confederate Army during the Civil War. The Alabama Choctaw MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians tribe is fighting for Federal rights. The Mississippi Choctaw Nation opposes the MOWA's request for Federal recognition because of the flow of the money from the casinos. If MOWA would open their own casinos, they fear loss of revenue.

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma changed the flag in the 1970's. They changed the flag by reattaching the string on the bow which had previously been loose at one end. It was believed that this was more of a historical picture of the objects shown on the flag and the seal. This resulted in an uproar. This flag seemed to represent a non-peaceful reflection of the Choctaw toward society.

In this lesson, I learned that the Choctaw tribe was split into three different tribes. They are: The Oklahoma Choctaw Nation, the Mississippi Choctaw Nation and the Jena Louisiana Choctaw Nation. Many of the Choctaw Indians were sold into slavery. I look forward to learning about the Choctaw Indian tribes.
