The Highroad

The Highroad

The highroad is a long one,
one that goes on what seems forever
with many forks on the trodden path.
It will always make you tired,
but surprises along the way
can always lighten the mood
making the trip seem better.
It is a dirt path, the one you walk on;
key is to keep it lively
and so you live everything up.
Greenery lines the path on occasion
and at others, foggy blackness.
Some parts are gloomy
and some parts are bright.
An assortment of scenery is on this road
because the highroad is your days
and your are days constantly shifting
and somewhere it will end.

But at present, I keep trudging on
because my end is not in sight
nor is it around a turn for shock.
I make the best I can of my walk
and try not to run excessively fast or oft
So much has happened while
crawling, standing, walking and running
on my highroad.
And even though when the path is difficult
I've learned that the highroad
is not a skinny one;
My highroad is wide enough
for everyone I know
to walk along with me at my side
because I am not alone.
