The Book
Streets are headlight lit with rain
As the cars go passing by.
They woke me from my good night’s dream
So I watched the sunrise sky.
But first I need make very sure
Sleep wipes from these eyes
Because a clouded view makes
Hard to find the deceitful lies
.
The morning sky brings in dawn
Filtered light soft and diffused.
Making promises to me this day
That all its strength be used
To help me walk in peace and love
So I’ll never more misuse,
Grace thats given me each day.
I will never more abuse.
When I’m all alone at night,
I reminisce on how it’s been
Thinking that our times together
Were better way back when
When things are at their very best
I stumble but just then
A page turns over very slow
And another chapter ends.
This book is thick, with print so small,
It takes forever to get through.
I read the pages one by one
But it still leaves no clue
No clue of what awaits for me
Today, tomorrow too,
Will I see another year?
And will I make it through?
This winding road I travel on
With all its bends and turns
Never lets me know for sure
What waits around the bend.
But I will press on patiently
I’m nearly at the end.
Where life and time and love converge
Forever in a blend,
It makes music on eternal strings
It is playing without end.
Together in perfect harmony
The music will ascend
The end is when in retrospect
I look back on way back when
Then take my last, and read no more
As the covers close to end.
