                                          Ghazal 262


Persian:  Aey keh dar koo e kharaabaat muqaamay daari
              Jam e ahd e khudi ar dast ba jaamay daari
Urdu:      Koo e maikhana maen ger too ba muqaam aa jaay
              Banay Jumsheed, teray haath maen jaam aa jaay

English:=== Anyone who makes the tavern his hub
                  With the noble Jum his shoulder he'll rub
                                                -

Persian:  Aey keh baa zulf o rukh e yaar guzaari shab o rooz
              Fursatat baad keh khush subhay o shaamay daari
Urdu;      Too guzaaray jo shab o roz ba zulf e jaanaan
              Naachti subh e tarab, jhoomti shaam aa jaay

English:=== And his nights and days if he spends with her
                  On him His blessings God will confer
                                                  -

Persian:  Aey saba sookhtagaan bar sar e reh muntazarand   
              Agar az yaar e safarkarda payaamay daari
Urdu:      Muntazar baethhay bohat raah maen haen soakhtagaan
              Kaash aisay maen saba lay kay payaam aa jaay

English:=== Without her, O breeze, I have the blues
                  Of her please go and get some news             
                                                  -

Persian:  Boo e jaan az lab e khandaan e qadeh meeshunawam
              Bahnoo aey khaja to gar zaan keh mushaamay daari
Urdu:      Boo e jaan hay lab e khandaan e qadeh maen khaja
              Kaho saaqi say keh baa itr e mushaam aa jaay

English:=== O preacher, come and have some wine
                  If on your pulpit you would like to shine
                                                  -

Persian:  Kaamay ar meetalabad az to ghareebay, cheh shawad
              Toie imrooz dar een shehr keh naamay daari
Urdu:        Mehrbaan ho jo too deewaanoun pay apnay aey jaan
                Her zabaan per tera is shehr maen naam aajaay

English:=== No, her my affection cannot demean
                  For everyone knows that she is the queen
                                                    -

Persian:  Goo ba hangaam e wafa garcheh sabaatat na bawad
              Meekunam shukr keh bar joor dawaamay daari
Urdu:      Baisabaati e wafa ka na ker aey dil shikwa
              Kaheen aisa hi na ho jour e dawaam aa jaay

English:=== If fidelity is something she does not know
                  And if she likes to stay cruel, let it be so
                                                      -

Persian:  Mehrbaan shud falak o tark e jafakaari kard
              Toie ae jaan keh dar een sheewa qawaamay daari
Urdu:      Mehrbaan charkh hua, jour o jafa tark kiay
              Kerna ya Rab usay bhee meh e qawaam aa jaay

English:=== But tell her to go and take some advice
                  From the cruel fate that can also be nice
                                                        -

Persian:  Khaal e sarsabz e to khushdaana e aishayst walay
              Bar kinaar e chamanash weh keh cheh daamay daari           
Urdu:      Khaal e sarsabz tera daana e ishrat aisa
              Zulf rukh pay ho toe her sayd ba daam aa jaay

English:=== Oh, how I adore her beauty spot
                  As a bait for her snare it's so very hot
                                                        -

Persian:  Bas dua e saharat hafiz e jaan khahad shud
              To keh chu HAFIZ e shabkheez ghulaamay daari
Urdu:      Mehrbaan ho too ager HAFIZ e shabkhaiz pay wo
              Day dua e sahari, ban kay ghulaam aa jaay

English:=== And like HAFIZ for her I pray and pray
                  And I'll alway be her slave, come what may
                                                        ====
