I decided to join the class because I do not recognize the correct placement of commas in my stories. This is very upsetting, I thought I was good with commas, but I find out, sadly that I’m not understanding them at all. This first lesson showed me why I’m having so much trouble. I never realized there were so many rules for comma usage. Besides the punctuation mark I am finding out about the different clauses and phrases. I never would recognize on my own. I do not know about the rest of the class, but this first lesson has been very helpful. There is way too much for me to remember too.
These first four rules are a springboard for future rules so if I learn them well I should be able to better understand the future ones. I expect to be able to know how to place every comma when I am finished with this class. I should be able to help others, too when I review their work. I hope to be able to just look at a sentence and identify where the comma goes without even thinking about it. This is a reasonable goal for a class in commas.
