CALLING NAMES: a sonnet
Some people call others many a name And think this raises them in others’ eyes. Doing so they feel not the slightest shame And indulge in their hollow claims and cries. The caravan moves on irrespective Of dogs that keep on barking so freely. But they who’re sure of their own perspective Carry on in their quest relentlessly. O God, show this kindness to Your children That they may see You in Your countless shapes. Let them not call names but be beholden To those whom none but Your Majesty makes. Lord when I go, let this be said of me: He was a friend to all, none’s enemy. M C Gupta 5 May 2009
