                                          Ghazal 264


Persian:  Een khirqa keh mun daaram dar rehn e sharaab aoula
              Ween daftar e baimaani gharq e mai e naab aula
Urdu:      Yeh khirqa e aalooda hay rehn e sharaab aula
              Yeh daftar e baimaani ghraq e mai naab aula

English:=== To the keeper of the bar I should sell my gown
                  And my books of wisdom in the wine drown
                                                    -

Persian:  Chun umr tabeh kardam chandaan keh nigeh kardam
              Dar kunj e kharaabaatay uftaadeh kharaab aula
Urdu:      In goshanasheenoun ko kaisay yeh bataaen hum
              Maikhaanay kay goshay maen hona hay kharaab aula

English:=== In the endless struggle I have ruined my life
                  I should go to the bar and leave the strife
                                                    -

Persian:  Mun haal e dil e shaida baa khalq nakhaaham guft
              Keen qissa agar gooyam baa chung o rabaab aula
Urdu:      Yuin haal e dil e shaida ro ro kay na batlaao
              Qissa hay bataana yeh baa chung o rabaab aula

English:=== To no one can I tell the problems of mine
                  I should enjoy the music, and drink some wine
                                                    -

Persian:  Ta bai sar o pa baashad auzaa e falak zeensaan
              Dar sar hawas e saaqi, dar dast sharaab aula
Urdu:      Hay bai sar o pa tarz e aklaak toe hum ko bhee
              Aula hawas e saaqi, shouq e mai naab aula

English:=== I should go and join the topers' club
                  And flirt with the lovely maids of the pub
                                                    -

Persian:  Az hamchu to dildaaray dil bar nakunam aaray
              Gar taab kasham baaray zaan zulf e bataab aula
Urdu:      Gham ki dil e khasta ko hay taab naheen laikin 
              Aey zulf e pareeshaan hay her taera itaab aula

English:=== For girls like these you can find nowhere
                  I should drink with them, and play with their hair
                                                  -

Persian:  Chun maslahatandeeshi dour ast zay durwaishi
              Hum seena puraatish beh, hum deeda puraab aula
Urdu:      Moazoon naheen durwaishi maen maslahatandaeshi
              Hay soakhta dil behtar, hay deeda puraab aula

English:=== This worldly wisdom is not for me
                  In love I have found my harmony
                                                  -

Persian:  Chun peer shudi HAFIZ az maikada bairoon shoo
              Rindi o hawasnaaki dar ahd e shabaab aula
Urdu:      Rindi o hawasnaaki zaeba naheen peeri maen
              Maana keh bohat HAFIZ taera tha shabaab aula

English:=== And HAFIZ says, when you aren't young
                  You should be calm and not high-strung
