                                          Ghazal 267


Persian:  Baa muddaie magooied israar e ishq o masti
              Ta baikhabar bameerad dar ranj e khudparasti
Urdu:      Kholo na muddaie per israar e ishq o masti
              Ghafil hay, baikhabar hay, hay mehv e khudparasti

English:=== Love and devotion knows not the sheik
                  For he is so arrogant, conceited, and fake
                                                  -

Persian:  Baa zoaf o naatawaani humchu naseem khush baash
              Beemaari andereen gham khushtar zay tandrusti
Urdu:      Baa zoaf o naatawaani misl e naseem reh khush
              Beemaar e aashiqi ko behtar na tandrusti

English:=== The lovers are poor and don't want wealth
                  In love the ailment is better than health
                                                  -

Persian:  Ta fazl o ilm beeni, baimaarfat nasheeni
              Yak nuktaat bagooyam, khud ra mabeen keh rusti 
Urdu:      Yeh ilm o fazl taera baimaarfat hay zaahid
              Khudbeeni, khudparasti maen hay naheen darusti

English:=== Your worldly knowledge in never complete
                  And you can't reach God through self-conceit
                                                  -

Persian:  Dar aastaan e jaanaan az aasmaan meyadeesh
              Kaz auj e sarbulandi ufti ba khaak e pasti
Urdu:      Hay aastaan e jaanaan auj e falak sat ooncha
              Us ki bulandioun maen koie naheen hay pasti

English:=== So the one you love, go kiss her feet
                  And there you'll find a perfect retreat
                                                  -

Persian:  Aashiq shoo ar na roozay kaar e jahaan sar aayad
              Naakhanda naqsh e maqsood az kaargaah e hasti
Urdu:      Hay ishq hi haqiqat aalam maen aek warna
              Daam e saraab saara hay kaargaah e hasti

English:=== The worldly things do all perish fast
                  Only love is real; it is meant to last
                                                  -

Persian:  Khaar ar cheh jaan bakaahad, gul uzr e aan bakhaahad
              Sehl ast talkhi e mai dar junb e zoaq o masti
Urdu:      Khandaan e gul say hoti hay khaar ki khalish kum
              Kerta hay talkhi e mai aasaan zoaq e masti

English:=== But the love is not without its woes 
                  Without the thorn you can't get a rose
                                                  -

Persian:  Soofi piyaala paima, saaqi qaraabeh pur kun
              Aey kohtehasteenaan ta kay daraazdasti
Urdu:      Soofi uthhaao saaghar, saaqi bharo suraahi
              Haen kohtehaasteenaan kertay daraazdasti

English:=== So my mystic friend, come have some wine
                  And leave these sheiks in the holy shrine
                                                  -

Persian:  Dar halqa e mughaanam doosh aan pisar cheh khush guft
              Baa kaafiraan cheh kaarat gar but namiparasti
Urdu:      Bazm e mughaan maen un ka kya kaam kaafiroun say
              Kertay agar naheen haen yeh loag butparasti

English:=== The preachers and sheiks are all asinine
                  But the maids of the bar are simply divine
                                                  -

Persian:  Dar mazhab e tareeqat khaami nishaan e fufr ast
              Aaray tareeq e rindaan chaalaaki ast o chusti
Urdu:      Hay mazbab e tareeqat maen kufr khaamkaari
              Toar o tareeq e rindaan chaalaaki aur chusti

English:=== And drinking in the bar is quite an art
                  The topers may be drunk, but they are smart
                                                  -

Persian:  Sultaan e ma khuda ra zultat shakist ma ra
              Ta kay kunad siyaahay chandeen daraazdasti
Urdu:      Maani shakist hum nay zulf e siyaah say jab
              Kerta daraaz gaisoo hay kuin daraazdasti

English:=== And the bar has also a lot of girls
                  Who'll make you a captive of their raven curls
                                                -

Persian:  Gar khirqaay babeeni, mashghool e kaar e khud bash
              Har qiblaay keh baashad mashghhool e khudparasti
Urdu:      Hay shaan kya aba maen, shaukat hay kya qaba maen
              Kaisay haen shaikh o zaahid mashghool e khudparasti

English:=== But don't go there in your mystic's gown
                  For the topers will think that you are a clown
                                                -

Persian:  Dar goosha e salaamat mastoor chun tawaan bood
              Ta nargis e to gooyad baa ma ramooz e masti
Urdu:      Goshay maen aafiat kay kis terheh chhup kay baethhaen
              Aankhaen agar bataaen hum ko ramooz e masti

English:=== And you can't shy away from the beautiful eyes
                  They charm, they enchant, they mesmerize
                                                -

Persian:  Ishqat ba dast e toofaan khaahad supurd aey jaan
              Chu barq az een kashaakash pindaashti keh rusti
Urdu:      Hay ishq men talaatum, kaisay bachaen hum is say
              Toofaan hay bala ka, gardaab maen hay kashti

English:=== So love is not simple; it's never so easy
                  And it can be stormy as well as breezy
                                                -

Persian:  Az raah e deeda HAFIZ ta deeda zulf e pastat
              Baa jumla sarbulandi shud paimaal e pasti
Urdu:      Gaisoo giray jo daekhay shaanoun pay taeray us nay
              Sar ho gaya hay HAFIZ ka paimaal e pasti

English:=== And HAFIZ says, "Beware of the beautiful girls
                  Because they have snares in their raven curls"
