                                          Ghazal 268


Persian:  Ba jaan e o keh garam dastras ba jaan booday
              Kameena paishkash e bandagaansh aan booday
Urdu:      Qasam hay jaan ki rawa ger halaak e jaan hota
              Bura na itna kabhee haal e aashiqaan hota

English:=== Oh, if I could've only died at her feet
                  I would've considered my mission complete
                                                  -

Persian:  Agar dilam nashuday paayband e turra e o
              Kayam qaraar dar een teera khaahdaan booday
Urdu:      Ager na hota yeh dil qayd us kay kaakul ka
              Qaraar us ko na hota, na itminaan hota

English:=== And if I weren't caught in the snare of her hair 
                  I would now be sitting in the Heaven somewhere
                                                    -

Persian:  Baguftamay keh baha cheest khaak e pa e tura
              Agar hayaat e garaanmaaya javedaan booday
Urdu:      Baha e khaak e cuff e pa e yaar ho jaata
              Ager hayaat ka sermaaya javedaan hota

English:=== And if many, many lives I could obtain
                  For her I would be dying again and again
                                                    -

Persian:  Ba khaab neez namibeenamash, cheh ja e wisaal
              Chun een na bood o nadeedeem baaray aan booday
Urdu:        Wisaal kya, wo ager khaab maen hi aa jaata
                Sakoon qalb ko milta, kuchh itminaan hota

English:=== Without her, so much I would not scream
                  If only I could see her in my dream
                                                    -

Persian:  Ba bandagi e qaddash sarv moatarif gushtay
              Agar chu sosan e aazaadeh dehzabaan booday
Urdu:      Chaman maen sarv qadd e yaar ki madeh kerta
              Misaal e sosan ager wo bhee dehzabeen hota

English:=== So if something like her I want to see
                  I look at a beautiful cypress tree
                                                      -

Persian:  Zay parda naala e HAFIZ baroon cheh uftaaday
              Agar na hamdam e murghaan e subhehkhaan booday
Urdu:      Na sunta naala e HAFIZ koie gulistaan maen
              Wo ger na humdam e murghaan e subhakhaan hota

English:=== But then, O HAFIZ, I begin to wail
                  Like a wretched and lonely nightingale
