         “It’s a collector’s item!” Gary insisted.

“It’s a toy,” Laura argued.  “An old toy!”

“A lot of people collect toys. This is a toy robot from Lost in Space!"

"Two hundred dollars?  Are you crazy?”

“It’s in mint condition.  It will only appreciate -- Laura I gotta have this thing!”

“You don’t even collect toys.  That’s a lot of money.  What makes it so special to you, anyway?”

         “I loved Lost in Space!”

“You were how old when it was on the air?”

“I don’t know.  Twelve, thirteen. What’s that got to do with it?”
“Some of us have grown up in the meantime.”

“Look, I really want this!  It’s a talking robot!  Please?”

         “Talking?”

“When I get a battery for it.”

         “What does it say?”

“I don’t know. I guess ‘danger, Will Robinson.’  Things like that.”

“Is that worth two hundred bucks?”

“I know it doesn’t make sense.”

         “Maybe it is worth it.”

         “You mean it?”

“If it means that much to you, it doesn’t have to make sense.  I love you, so buy it.”

         “You’re serious?”

You know me. If I’m talking two hundred dollars, I’m serious.  Call it a father’s day present.”

         “A fa-- I’m not a father.”

“Oh yes you are.  I was going to tell you tonight.”

Gary  lifted Laura off her feet, then became aware of all the other people around.  “Come back to earth,” she teased.  “And pay the man for your robot.”
