Many Years had passed since Light Yagami, better known as Kira, had been defeated. Kira had gone but his legacy was strong. The killings stopped and criminals began to re-emerge once more, realizing that Kira had finally been defeated. Crime went up by an incredible 40% and the good people of the world had begun to lose hope that their saviour would ever return. He was one evil the world needed.
Then, 2 years later Kira returned and began killing people once more and the criminals were afraid once more. This was revealed soon discovered to be a copycat killer, who was killing the elderly to relieve them of their pain. This Kira became known as the C-Kira (Cheap Kira) in later days but was largely forgotten soon after as he later killed himself after just a few days, unable to handle the sheer power of the Death Note. The criminals rejoiced that this Kira wasn’t the one they knew and hated and began to cause havoc once again. Despite this, it gave the people hope that Kira would return one day, knowing that there were others with similar powers. 15 Years have now passed since Light was killed, and crime was at an all time high, an additional 10% increase from what it was at after Light’s death and people have lost hope almost completely, and most people have moved on from those times. Most of the original team from the Kira Investigation Squad are still alive, now renamed the Japanese Special Investigation Squad. Near has been missing for the last 2 years, with both the US and Japanese governments believing him to be dead, but enough of recapping on the past. In the present day, The Shinigami have become bored once again, and a new one has come to Earth, “Accidentally” dropping his Death Note through the gateway between the two worlds, preparing it with instructions in the exact same way Ryuk did when he dropped his Death Note. And so begins the new chapter in this universe. Chapter 1: The New Era 28th June 2023, London, Great Britain It had been a long day at the station, more criminal attacks had swept the city. The man known as Xander Morrison had killed destroyed half of a station in East London out of revenge after 2 of his men were killed. Evan, a rookie cop who’d only been among the Police squad for a year, had been exhausted by all the work. Visually, he was an average man, about 5’10 in height, medium build, brown hair and brown eyes. Under the surface though, he was about to become a very different man. He thought to himself "God, what a long day i need some sleep. Crime just never rests". He fell asleep. However, usually, he hates falling asleep. For the last 15 years, ever since he was 6, Evan has had a recurring dream, which appears to him irregularly but always the same each time, like someone trying to reach out to him. Whenever he gets the dream, he sees a figure, A Japanese man, one who seems approachable and likable on the outside, yet he didn't seem quite right. Something was odd about him. The man would always tell him “Your time is coming, follow the light and approach your destiny.” He always thought that it meant the light was to become a police officer, to help protect the community, to follow the “Light” side of the world, the side of justice and not the “Darker” passage of becoming a criminal. That's what he believed, that's what his childhood psychologist told him. Morning. All hell had broken loose down at the Police station. He worked in Western London and there was panic among members of the force. All 8 of the new Police recruits, currently undergoing training, had been gunned down in cold blood. The station's teams being sent all across London to find the killers, evidence being surveyed in a rushed manner, senior officers overwhelmed. They were searching even harder than normal because this wasn’t the first time that this had happened across the city. Days before, a different group of new recruits had been shot down, killing 15 recruits and 3 civilians and further deaths beyond that. It no longer felt safe to be in the Police. Nothing felt safe anymore. Crime had increased by 10% in the last year, let alone from the additional 40% over the last 15 years. The Government is being put into the difficult position of having to use more extreme methods to stop crime, including potentially reinstating the Death Penalty. Evan was among the teams. “Who are these guys anyway?” Evan asked, not having being fully briefed due to the rush. “Some guys who work for a criminal syndicate. Not sure who but we've got evidence that they’re working for Xander Morrison himself” said Sergeant Baxter, Evan’s superior officer. “Xander Morrison? I don’t like the sound of this” Evan replied, thinking of all the terrible crimes he had committed across the whole of the UK, how he had the country in fear “Relax; it’s just some of his hired gunmen, nothing particularly special.” “And yet, they’ve killed around 60-70 people in over a few weeks. Nothing special indeed” “Don’t get smart with me PC. We need you to bring down these men, we need all of you. Shape up and don’t step over the line” “Sorry Sergeant.” All of a sudden, a message came through to the car. The teams were split into 10 with 4 men in each car per team. One team has located the suspects and is pursuing them. Details of the location are being sent through to other units. “We’ve heading that way now. Over and out” replied Sergeant Baxter “The Moment I see them, they’re dead men” PC Golding said, who just realized that everyone had just heard him. “You be careful with what you do Golding. You never know the consequences. Besides, why are you so angry against them?” Sergeant Baxter asked “It’s that…” he spoke, unable to complete his sentence. “Well what?” “I don’t like to talk about it” “Fair enough Paul, I won’t force you” Baxter said understandably. They continued on for several more minutes, when they reached their target. “Sir, the suspects are straight ahead of us!” shouted PC Griffin. He was the driver of the car. “Follow them. PC Stevenson, PC Goldman, shoot them if they start to fire.” The unit began to tail them, when, to their surprise, a group of associates, most likely working for Harrison, appeared from behind and started shooting with a machine gun. “Damm it, we’ve been set up. Evan, Paul, return fire. Shoot to kill.” Ordered Baxter They returned fire. Evan felt truly afraid, realizing that he could die if he makes a single mistake. Paul though, didn’t seem to care. He was angrier more than anything else. They’d done something to him, but he wasn’t sure what. He began yelling expletives and starting swearing loudly, hitting two of the seven men in the car. “Evan, for god’s sake start shooting, Paul can’t do this alone!” Sergeant Baxter yelled in an angry and frustrated tone. Evan began shooting when he felt a sudden pain in his chest. He’d been shot. The others were in disbelief. He was wearing bulletproof armor. "How the hell could he have been shot?” question Paul “I don’t know, we’ll have to find out later. That's something for the labs to discover. Griffin, pull out.” Ordered Baxter “Yes Sir” PC Griffin responded. However, as he began to pull away, James was also shot. However, he was hit in the head and died instantly. The Car crashed. Harrison’s men pulled away, while the other units arrived to rescue Sergeant Baxter, Evan and Paul. As they are pulled from the wreckage and taken to hospital, Evan fell unconscious. He began to dream that same dream again. However, for the first time ever, the dream was different. The man spoke in a more confident voice, like he'd been waiting, he said “Your destiny has arrived. It is not to be a police officer, something far greater. You are, Evan Stevenson, my successor.” He faded away soon after. After being unconscious for 6 days, Evan finally wakes up, feeling uneasy. He recounts in his thoughts "His successor? Who is he?". He had always wondered about that man but he then realised, as he started to take in his surroundings that he was in a hospital. The Time is 18.45. A nurse walks in. “Ah, you’re finally awake. It’s a miracle you’re still with us.” Said the Nurse Evan, confused and trying to get his head round everything, looks blankly at the Nurse. "Take it easy, You've had a rough time." She spoke. “What happened?” asked Evan “You were shot in the chest, then your driver was shot fatally in the head and the car crashed.” The nurse told Evan, trying to clear things up for him “James is dead?” Evan replied, sounding uneasy “Yes and your Sergeant also died from his wounds.” “Oh no. What about Paul, I mean PC Goldman?” “He survived, but he’s in a more critical condition than you. Currently in Intensive care. Poor man, he’s even luckier to be alive with his injuries. The debris was only a centimetre away from piercing his heart” “That’s horrible, Poor Paul.” Evan tries to take all that information in, when he suddenly just takes in what the Nurse said about getting shot. “Wait, did you say I was shot?” Evan asked, sounding shocked “Yes you were, in the chest. Why?” The Nurse responded “I was wearing a bulletproof vest, how the hell did that happen?” “Your teams are investigating that as we speak. They don’t have any answers as of yet.” “I see. Am I allowed to get up and walk around?” “That should be fine. You should at least have a stretch.” “Thanks Nurse” The Nurse walks away and Evan gets out of bed, realizing that he’s wearing a gown. He puts on some of his clothes that were left for him and heads up to the roof. He remembers what the man said in the dream, thinking in his head. “Your destiny has arrived, he said to me. I’m his successor, he said to me. Who was that man, the man who’s plagued many of my dreams for so long? I don’t know, but I want to know.” He thought to himself. “Am I going insane, does this actually mean anything? I’ve seen him too many times, it can’t just be my imagination. Why would I want to succeed him, what did he do that was so important? Too many questions, I need to relax” He imagined in his head the image of that man while thinking this. Suddenly, there was a drop on the other side of the roof. He looked over and finds something he’d not expected to find, a notebook. It was like it had just dropped from the sky. He picked it up and looked at it. Inscribed on the front cover were the words “Death Note”. “What an odd name” Evan thought. He began to read what was written inside it, detailed instructions of how to use it. Upon reading it, he found particle rules to be quite familiar to something he heard about as a child. “Why does some of this sound so familiar? Does this have anything to do with that Man? Maybe I should keep on reading.” He thought. It then came to him. He dropped the Death Note in shock and fear. He realized that this was not a joke, it was all too familiar. “No, it can’t be! This can't be true! Kira! His legendary power, the ultimate weapon he used to kill criminals, this is it!” He started to smile, realizing what power had just fallen before him. He thought again to himself “This is what that man meant, how my destiny had arrived, how I am to be his successor! The man in my dreams, he was Kira!" he said in his head, relieved he finally new the truth "And now, so am I. No, I am not the same as Kira, we are still different. I will become Neo-Kira and cleanse the world” he grinned over his thoughts heavily. He hid the Death Note and took it back to his room. The last 6 days worth of newspapers were sitting in a chair for him, in case he woke up and wanted to read the news. He decided to store the newspapers in the bag left for him as well as the Death Note, to avoid being caught through CCTV camera footage. Two days later, Evan was given the all clear to leave the hospital and was given three weeks paid absence from the force to fully recover from his injuries. He looked through the newspapers and started to look for criminals. To his surprise, the men who had been working for Xander Harrison had been captured, so he decided to save them for his first victims. He finished with the newspapers so he started looking on the internet on TV news stations for new criminals, he began to compile lists so for the future, so he didn't look suspicious if the police checked his computer. That night, after killing his first criminals, he felt strong, like he's humanity's only hope. "Is this what Kira felt? Did these thoughts go through his mind?" He fell asleep, hoping to finally get a good nights sleep for the first time that he could remember. However, the man appeared yet again in his dreams. He said this time “You will become stronger and stronger, a force to be reckoned with. Go forth and become a god like I was. Remember me while you live. I am Light Yagami, Kira Himself and you’ve proven yourself to be a successor worthy of me. Farewell and Good luck.” He faded away from the last time, never to return. Evan awoke, it was morning. The first thing Evan said was “Light Yagami, I’ll avenge you. I’ll make yours, and my new dream come true. A Better world” Just who was Light Yagami though? What a strange name. Evan wondered if it was worth looking into “Perhaps I shouldn’t. If I ever come under suspicion and they find out I’ve looked him up, it’ll be very suspicious. He does have a very unusual name. No, I won’t look into him, too dangerous” he thought. He was having breakfast when suddenly, things took yet another surprising turn. Evan stared in shock. “Evan Stevenson” said the strange creature “Who are you!?” he asked “I am Verak, a Shinigami. The British know my type better as Reapers, or Gods of death.” “Shinigami!?” he said, starting to get nervous “Yes, but do not fear, I don’t intent to hurt you or kill you.” “Then, what are you doing here?” "You have claimed my notebook, my Death Note. I am here to stick by you from now on, until the day you lose ownership of the Death Note.” “I see. You’re here to help me.” “Yes.” “Are there other Shinigami?” “Yes, there are many” “Were you the one who came to Earth 20 years ago, to give Light Yagami, A.K.A Kira, his Death Note?” “No, that was the Shinigami known as Ryuk, Always the joker he was, gave it to Light out of boredom. I played no part in that” “Can you explain why I kept seeing Kira in my dreams?” “It is beyond me. When you use the Death Note, after you die, you cannot go to Heaven or Hell. Not even us Shinigami know what happens inside this "Dark Realm", there could have been a number of ways he did this.” "I See." Verak picks up the Death Note and looks into it. “So, you’re following the path of the original Kira now, are you?” Verak says, intrigued by this discovery. “Yes, and I plan to continue for a long time. This world has become disgusting with all the crime. I want to restore the order Kira created.” "But, If you continue to do that, what makes you better than them?" "The World can't live on good and justice alone, we've tried that and It's failing. It needs that balance of evil, someone to keep the world order. To do that though, I would have to sacrifice some of my humanity, but someone has to" Verak looks on, somewhat surprised by this. He had never been to the Human world before, and knew he was only scratching the surface. Still, this human intrigued him. He began to wonder what other Humans were like, if many others were similar to him. “I won’t stop you. I have no reason too. I can see what Ryuk liked about Humans, you are so interesting.” Evan continued to kill criminals day by day. Gradually, more and more criminals soon died from heart attacks and other unusual causes and it became very suspicious. The press began to pick up on the deaths, as well as the police. That fear thought long lost had returned to Criminals hearts across the world, the hope that many had long abandoned had returned, the legacy was revived. Kira was back and as strong as ever. The world was divided again. Figures who had hidden away in the shadows long ago where about to be revealed once more, Neo-Kira's rule had begun.
